Deputy Principal / Religious Education
Dear Parents and Families
Remembrance Day
On Monday I had the privilege of attending the Remembrance Day service at the Shepparton Cenotaph with Donna Allen and two of our year 5 students. Ella Niglia and Zoe Liddell laid a wreath on behalf of St Luke’s and were among many other schools and organisations involved in the wreath laying ceremony. They represented our school respectfully and showed tremendous leadership doing so. At school, each learning area held their own liturgy at 11am to remember those who have died in war and paid respect to those who continue to serve our country in times of conflict.
It’s important to keep events such as Remembrance Day and Anzac Day in the forefront of our thinking when teaching our students about significant events in Australian history. The legacy of those men and women who have served and continue to serve their country must be remembered. There is always much for us to learn and to be grateful for.
Youth Mass
We had a good turn out of students from both St Brendan’s and St Luke’s who attended our combined Youth Mass last Saturday night. After mass students had fun participating in a scavenger hunt and enjoyed pizza and drinks. Thank you to Sean Kelly and Jemma Daunt for reading and saying prayers of the faithful and to those who sang in the choir. We also thank Emma Christey, St Brendan’s parish youth coordinator, for organising the mass and activities. We appreciate the commitment families make getting to parish events and look forward to ‘growing’ our numbers when the opportunity arises again next year. Stay tuned for information regarding the parish Christmas Eve mass!
'Pilgrims of Hope' ~ Andrew Chinn
Congratulations to Julia Anoop and Cianna Sebastian (both grade 3) who are starring in a new video and song produced by Andrew Chinn titled, ‘Pilgrims of Hope’. Andrew Chinn, through his production company, Butterfly House, produced ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ for the Jubilee Year, 2025. This song and spectacular video clip were created with the talents of 49 students from across Australia and New Zealand. From Waiben (Thursday Island) QLD, the northern tip of Australia, to Launceston, TAS, over to Geraldton, WA, to Timaru, Foxton and New Plymouth in Aotearoa/New Zealand, and many points in between!
Both Julia and Cianna were chosen by Andrew when he performed for us on our Feast Day. This was a huge privilege for not only Julia and Cianna but for our school community in general. We look forward to learning the lyrics and actions and singing ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ as a regular song at school masses and liturgies for years to come, starring two of our very own, Cianna and Julia. Our Diocesan Theme next year has recently been announced as "Pilgrims of Hope", and this resonates beautifully with the production of Andrew's new song. Exciting stuff!!
