HSC MINIMUM STANDARDS
HSC Minimum Standards
2024 marked the continued improvement of HSC Minimum Standards with a perfect 100% completion rate for every Year 12 student. At Wyndham College we are proud of our strong commitment to ensuring all students achieve the literacy and numeracy standards required for the Higher School Certificate (HSC). These foundational skills are crucial for future success beyond the HSC. The success stems from the commitment to, and implementation of a range of high-quality programs and support strategies to help our students meet and exceed the minimum standards. Students and staff work effectively towards meeting and exceeding the numeracy and literacy requirements by the New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA).
Wyndham’s targeted and tailored support programs are designed to address individual learning needs. Every student can meet the required standards through programs which include:
- Literacy and Numeracy One-on-One Support: Individualised one-on-one support led by two specialist teachers whose focus is on the key areas of literacy, reading, writing and comprehension, as well as numeracy, problem-solving and mathematical reasoning, respectively. These one-on-one tutorials are structured to provide additional practice and targeted instruction, ensuring that students improve their skills and confidence in these essential areas. Also, numeracy and literacy resources are sent to students and their parents to allow extra practice at home that can be reviewed by the students teachers at school.
- Assessment and Feedback: Regular formative assessments are conducted throughout the year to monitor student progress. Detailed feedback helps students identify areas for improvement, and intervention strategies are put in place when necessary. This information is also shared with parents to allow a better appraisal of their child’s ability and how to improve their skills.
- Targeted Literacy and Numeracy Classes: For students who need extra support, we offer support in the students’ classes that focus on literacy and numeracy development. This support is designed to build foundational skills, preparing students for their minimum standard tests.
- Practice Tests: In Term 4 there are three Student Learning Support Officers (SLSO's) and Denis Vlismas, Head Teacher Maths, who are available to help any Year 11 students to attempt a Practice Test of the Minimum Standards and to develop the students skills and confidence. All students are welcome to receive extra individualised attention, whether they have passed or yet to pass their Minimum Standard test.
Our continued focus on early intervention and personalised support means that all students are on track to achieve these important benchmarks. With an impressive rate of success, we remain committed to maintaining and enhancing these programs to ensure every student advances through Year 12 with the skills necessary for the HSC and beyond.
As we move forward, we will continue to refine and expand our literacy and numeracy programs to provide ongoing support for all students. We recognise that literacy and numeracy are not just about passing tests; they are critical skills that will serve our students throughout their education and future careers. We are confident that, with the continued dedication of our staff, students and families, we will maintain our outstanding results and support every individual student in achieving their best.
