Clyde North Campus News

Term 4 has arrived and hopefully summer or at least warm and sunny days will follow.

There are many wonderful events and activities to look forward to this term, not the least of which is the Year 12 Graduation Assembly, Mass and Valedictory Dinner.

New student leadership will also feature heavily this term with the commissioning of our 2025 College and House Captains. Orientation day for year 7 2025 will be a highlight as will be the upcoming Rosemary Graham Shield winning House excursion next week.

Tomorrow man and Tomorrow woman – student reflections

Last week year 10 students attended an incursion run by Tomorrow Man & Tomorrow Woman. The program’s model is a holistic approach to creating sustained social change. It focused on supporting our young men and women to expand their emotional range, building genuine, meaningful relationships and thereby creating a road map for the man or woman they want to be. The feedback from the students was overwhelming positive and enthusiastic as illustrated by the two student reflections that follow. I thank both Eden and Liam for being open to providing such thoughtful reflections.

Tomorrow Women was a great opportunity to really get to feel that we aren't alone in the thoughts we can have across our life. Some people felt comfortable sharing their stories, but some didn't feel comfortable saying anything but could feel a little bit of weight off their shoulders seeing the confidence other girls had sharing their personal life. It wasn't a whole life lesson saying we shouldn't feel any of those feeling it gave us the understanding that it is okay to have those feelings, and you are only human, people go through many different challenges. I think it was great we could have someone come down to our school and talk about those things as it isn't really stuff we bring up in our life to our school peers or anyone. And I love how no one judged anyone for sharing or not sharing things from their personal life. (Eden E Yr 10)

Taking part in the Tomorrow Man program was a life-changing experience that reshaped my views on masculinity and how emotions are expressed. From the moment I arrived at the workshop, I was greeted by a supportive atmosphere that promoted openness and vulnerability. Engaging in meaningful conversations with a diverse group of men enabled me to challenge myself and see the pressures that come with stereotypical male roles. The activities created a sense of community, allowing us to make deep connections through the sharing of personal stories. By the end of the program, I left with not only valuable insights about myself but also practical strategies for managing my emotions and improving my relationships. Tomorrow Man has significantly altered my perspective on what it means to be a man today.  (Liam S Yr 10)

Year 7 WILDLIFE XPOSURE incursion

I am sure that every year 7 went home last week buzzing with excitement from taking part I the Wildlife Xposure science incursion. Afterall it is not everyday that you get to hold and pat crocodiles, snakes and other creepy creatures. At first many of the students were a little nervous to hold or even touch the creatures but the knowledge and reassurance from Brendan the Wildlife presenter, their confidence grew and by the end of the session many students wanted to take the creatures home. Learning through such interactive sessions creates lifelong memories and multi-dimensional learning.

A great activity and one that I am sure will become part of the regular year 7 science experience.

Prayer Garden, a beginning.

Over the past few years our Art students have been designing and making tiled pavers with the hope of developing a prayer garden, as a gentle space for quiet reflection.

The project was severely interrupted by the COVID years. With life returning to normal over the past two years, it was now time to dust off the pavers and start the re-imaging of this special project. Whilst some of the students who designed the paver originally may not have been involved in this development, they can be proud of the legacy that has now been created by the current Arts and Liturgy captains. With the wonderful support and guidance from Mrs Hayes Arts Coach and Paul and Darren from the maintenance team the garden has come alive.

There is still work to be done as we move to incorporate an indigenous element within the garden and space, this is the work of the 2025 captains alongside art and design technology students as the garden will feature a seating area. Thank you to past and present students and staff for their work and care getting the garden to where it is now.

Just a couple of reminders to help your son/daughter reset for term 4:

  • Summer uniform is required now, so I ask all parents, guardians and caregivers to check that your son or daughter has the required uniform pieces.
  •  Only the school bag is permitted, please ensure your son or daughter is not bringing black Nike or other such bags to school.
  • Lateness, we need our students here on time, please support this.

I wish you all a safe and productive week.
