Learning & Teaching Update
Since returning from the September holidays, both staff and students have truly hit the ground running. The energy across the school has been vibrant, with senior students preparing for and beginning their examinations, numerous excursions and incursions taking place, and several evening events celebrating the impressive work of our students.
VCE Examinations
While formal VCE written exams commence on Tuesday, 29 October, our students have already completed the Japanese Oral and Music Performance exams. To further support exam preparation, students have participated in various events, including an after-school General Maths presentation and full-day Creative Arts rehearsals. The evening performance this week showcased a variety of talents and served as excellent preparation for upcoming VET and VCE performance exams.
Incursions & Excursions
Year 7 Science and Year 11 Biology students recently enjoyed a reptile incursion led by “Wildlife Exposure” as part of their studies on the Circle of Life. While they encountered a range of cold-blooded creatures, it was surely less dangerous than a Lion King-style face-off!
Year 9 students participating in the Challenge unit have begun exploring different lifelong physical activities. As part of this, students are in the process of visiting the Cranbourne Bowling Club, where they had the opportunity to enjoy a game of lawn bowls. No doubt, it was a “crackerjack” time!
Our chess enthusiasts made us proud at the State Chess Competition last week, held at Penleigh & Essendon Grammar School in Keilor East. Representing Clyde North, Arien Pateras, Zach Soji, Giovanni Navin, Gaurav Singh, Arya Kantharaj, and Kyle Mondelon adopted the strategy: "board the bus and checkmate the competition!" Special thanks to Mr. Brannan and Mr. Chris "King of Chess" O'Hara for supervising the students and helping to make the day a success.
The SIS Book in a Day Awards took place on Tuesday, 15 October, with students from both Clyde North and Cranbourne campuses participating. These students had previously worked collaboratively to write and illustrate a book in just one day, showing tremendous creativity and teamwork. St Peter’s students received an honourable mention for creativity.

Cranbourne's Year 11 Food Technology students, under the guidance of Ms. Sarah Lang, played a key role in catering for the Art and Technology Exhibition held on Monday, 14 October. Their beautifully presented individual charcuterie baskets were a huge hit, but the small desserts were the clear crowd favourite. Well done to all involved for their contribution to this successful event!
VET Sport & Recreation Students on the Green
Our Year 2 VET Sport & Recreation students had an exciting opportunity to attend a golf lesson at Ranfurlie Golf Course with a professional coach as part of their Coaching Unit. Mr. Brannan “fore-warned” the students that it would be a real “course” in patience! This practical experience helped them enhance their coaching skills while enjoying a fun day on the green.
VCE Vocational Major Course
On Monday and Tuesday, our Year 12 VCE Vocational Major students delivered their final presentations to parents, peers, and staff, reflecting on their achievements throughout the applied learning program. These thoughtful presentations highlighted the students' growth and accomplishments, and it was a privilege to hear them share their proudest moments and future plans.
To cap off their hard work, the students used funds raised from their $30 Boss projects and VCAFE sales to enjoy a celebratory visit to Gravity Zone on Thursday. It was a well-deserved reward and a fantastic way to conclude their course. Some students will also use next week to complete additional qualifications, including the Responsible Service of Alcohol course, Barista course, and Food Handler's Certificate. These achievements will greatly enhance the employability of both VCE Vocational Major and non-scored VCE students who participate.
