Festival of Children's Music

Congratulations to the choristers and Orchestra members who performed at the Festival of Children's Music this Thursday. We are delighted to have been part of the festival once again this year. Select members of the Year 4 Choir have participated in two combined choir rehearsals prior to this final combined performance at The Concourse Chatswood. Thank you to Ms Croom and Ms Maiorana for guiding Year 4 Choir throughout the year, an to all our Year 4 choristers who have shown commitment and a love of singing.

The Orchestra also featured as a performance item at the concert, performing a vibrant 1812 Overture by Pyotr Tchaikovskywith a special arrangement by our director, Mr Kim. Our gratitude to Mr Kim and Mr Matthews for making the evening performance possible, and to our Orchestra musicians for representing the school.

Here is a brief glimpse of the festival performers, and we will try to incorporate more images next week.

Ensemble Rehearsals

Concert Band, Jazz Band and Training Band will not be rehearsing in the coming week, Week 3. Mr Darby unfortunately is unwell and will need some time to rest and recover. Please stay tuned for updates from the music program regarding Concert, Jazz and Training rehearsals resuming soon.

External Music Learning Opportunities

Northern Sydney Symphonic Wind Ensemble (NSSWE) offers a band extension program designed for young student musicians who play woodwind, brass or percussion instruments. NSSWE is a not-for-profit organisation focused on community, performance, development and fun. Their ensemble program aims to complement school band programs by challenging those students who have gained a high degree of musical proficiency. The program provides young musicians with opportunities to:

  • perform musical repertoire of a very high standard, in professional and public venues,
  • further develop their musical skills and talent,
  • share their love of music with like-minded peers through social interaction, and
  • tour with their ensemble both locally and internationally.

Student musicians are invited to audition for NSSWE 2025 programming. Applications close Sunday 3 November. To learn more, please visit the NSSWE audition page: https://www.nsswe.org/auditions/
