Term 3 Positive Learning Routine Winners
Our classes have been working hard all of Term 3 to follow our Positive Learning Routines. Teachers nominated classes throughout the Term who were showing our routines, and classes continued to be awarded the Positive Learning Routine trophy. We also ran our Term competition, where classes that received the most nominations over the Term would win a prize from each year level. Congratulations to the winners below.
Grandparents Day
We are delighted to invite all grandparents and special friends to join us for Grandparents Day on Monday, 27th October (Week 4).
Grandparents and special friends play an important role in the lives of children, offering love, wisdom, and a special connection across generations. This day is an opportunity to celebrate that relationship and for students to proudly share their learning environment.
From 2:15 PM, classrooms will be open for students to welcome their grandparent or special friend, show them around their classroom, and introduce them to their teacher and classmates. Students will have an activity that they will be completing, and will invite their Grandparent or special friend to complete with them and their classmates.
If a family has more than one child in the Primary Years, we recommend that grandparents or special friends begin their visit in the oldest child’s classroom. Afterwards, the older child can escort their grandparent or special friend to the younger sibling’s classroom.
To help with navigation, maps will be displayed throughout the Primary Years showing grades and teachers’ names. We kindly ask families to ensure grandparents or special friends know their child’s classroom and teacher before the visit. Primary Years Leadership will also be available on the day to assist and direct visitors to classrooms.
Following the classroom visits, we invite everyone to gather for an afternoon tea picnic on the fake turf outside the Learning Neighbourhoods. Please bring your own afternoon tea to share as a family. Teachers will be in attendance, and there will be games and seating set up and HFactor activities for everyone to enjoy together.
Arrival time: from 2:10 pm, with classrooms opening at 2:15 pm.
We look forward to celebrating this special day together and recognising the wonderful role grandparents and special friends play in the lives of our students.
Home Learning in the Primary Years
Home learning is important for reinforcing classroom learning, building independent study skills like time management and self-regulation, and strengthening the home-school partnership. It also provides a valuable opportunity for parents to support their child's education.
Students in Prep to Year 4 are expected to read at home five nights a week and record this in their student diary. Students in Year 5 and 6 are also expected to read five nights a week and complete a weekly Maths task.
Teachers regularly monitor students' home learning in the classroom and provide feedback to students. Please note that students' participation in Home Learning will be marked on their Semester reports as a work habit. If you have any questions about home learning, please see your child's teacher.
Sun Smart - Hats
This is a friendly reminder that in Terms 1 and 4, Primary Years students must wear HGC bucket hats in accordance with our Primary Years Uniform Guide. Students should bring their HGC bucket hat to school every day and are required to wear it during outdoor classroom activities, PE, recess, and lunchtime. Caps that were previously worn in Middle School are not acceptable, and students who wear them will be asked to take them off and move to a shaded area.
With warmer weather approaching, we want to ensure our students are being sun smart and protected while enjoying time outdoors. From Week 2, if students forget their hats on any day, they will be directed by Yard Duty teachers to play in a shaded area to ensure they are protected from the sun. If you need a new hat for your child, please visit our uniform provider, PSW in South Morang or order online. Bucket hats can also be purchased from the main College office for $17.95 if required.
Personal Enrichment Program (PEP) Term 4
This term in our Personal Enrichment Program (PEP), our Primary Years students will be exploring Topic 8: Positive Gender Relations as part of the Respectful Relationships curriculum.
Learning activities in this unit focus on building students’ understanding of respectful relationships and the importance of positive interactions with others. Students will develop the skills needed to solve problems, set boundaries within their relationships, and recognise what respectful relationships look like.
Through age-appropriate discussions and activities, students will also learn about the effects of unsafe behaviour. They will build confidence in peer support and help-seeking strategies that can be applied in different contexts, such as at home, among friends, in the community, and online.
In addition to the Respectful Relationships curriculum, each year level will have specific focus areas for Term 4.
- Prep students will explore our College Learning Essences and Values while preparing for their transition to Year 1.
- Year 1 students will unpack positive friendships and focus on transitioning to Year 2.
- Year 2 students will participate in the Kids First program and prepare for their transition to Year 3.
- Year 3 students will explore cyber safety and racism.
- Year 4 students will focus on cyber safety, respectful and appropriate language, racism, and expected behaviour.
- Year 5 students will learn about cyber safety, password safety, and transition to Year 6.
- Year 6 students will learn about cyber safety, being kind online and celebrate their final year within the Primary Years.
