Year 1

It’s hard to believe we’ve reached our final term together as 1C— and we’ve hit the ground running (sometimes literally… especially during our measurement lessons involving water!).
We’ve been lucky enough to learn from Abli, a drummer from Ghana, who filled our second week back with rhythm, dance and song. The children absolutely loved performing for families — even if their hands needed a little rest afterwards! Thank you to everyone who came along to clap, cheer, sing and dance with us.
Our imaginary airport has been in full swing as we’ve travelled across Australia, Asia, and Europe. We’ve explored famous cities and landmarks and incorporated what we’ve learned into our writing by crafting sentences, questions, commands and exclamations about the amazing places we’ve “visited.”
In Maths, we’ve been exploring measurement, learning all about length, height and capacity. Things got a little splashy when we compared containers during our capacity investigations — but it’s all in the name of learning! We’re now using informal units like cubes, paperclips and glue sticks to measure just about anything that doesn’t move.
This term, we’ve opened up a whole new level in our Decodable Readers journey (Level 7) and are learning about those tricky split digraphs (a-e, e-e, i-e, o-e, u-e). Our main goal this term is to build reading fluency — you might even notice your child reading with extra expression at home and increasing their words read per minute!
We began Term 4 by revisiting our school expectations and have been collecting ‘class compliments’ from staff and students for showing our best behaviour around the school. As of Wednesday 22nd, we have just ONE letter left to learn before spelling out EXPECTATIONS completely! We’ve also been learning about problem solving and teamwork, practising with fun challenges like passing hoops without letting go of hands and transporting pasta in spoons (teamwork and laughter guaranteed!).
It’s been a jam-packed start to the term with plenty more adventures ahead. Thanks for your ongoing support — I can’t wait to see what the rest of Term 4 brings!
