VISUAL ART

This term in Visual Arts, students are diving into literature as inspiration for their artmaking! Across all year levels, classes will explore how stories, characters, and illustrations can spark creative expression and connect visual ideas to written narratives.
As a whole school, students are beginning the term by creating self-caricature drawings using grey lead and fine liner. These fun and expressive portraits will be cut out and proudly displayed at the Kyneton Show, celebrating the individuality and creativity of every Lancefield artist.
Here’s what each year level is exploring through art and story this term:
Prep – Nobody Hugs a Cactus
Our youngest artists are exploring themes of kindness and connection through expressive drawings and textures inspired by the lovable yet prickly cactus character.
Year 1 – Why Is the Sky Blue?
Students are blending science and art as they illustrate the wonder of our skies, experimenting with colour and imagination to express curiosity and discovery.
Years 2/3 – Yayoi Kusama: From Here to Infinity
Inspired by the iconic artist Yayoi Kusama, students will explore pattern, repetition, and bold colour to create artworks that celebrate Kusama’s playful and infinite world.
Years 4/5 – The Great Wave
Students will study Hokusai’s famous print The Great Wave off Kanagawa, using it to explore movement, texture, and emotion through painting and mixed media.
Year 6 – Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
As our senior artists prepare to move on to new adventures, they’ll create imaginative, hope-filled artworks inspired by Dr Seuss’s classic story — reflecting their dreams for the future.
All completed works will be showcased at the End-of-Year Art Exhibition, featured as a special display during Lancefield’s Concert/Picnic Evening.
