Positive Behaviour for Learning

Every child has the right to learn and every teacher has the right to teach.

        Lesson Plan: Problem Solving Respectfully

Step 1: List Learning Intentions and Success Criteria

We are learning to :

Identify problems that we have in the yard or in the classroom

Think of possible solutions to these problems and evaluate which ones are respectful and appropriate.

Identify appropriate problem solving strategies for different situations.

It will look like:

Students trying to solve problems

Respectful conversations

Step 2:  List a rationale for teaching the behaviour

Why is it important?

Holy Rosary School Values: Relationships, Respect, Resilience, Integrity, Kindness.

Holy Rosary School Expectations: Safety is our right. Learning is our responsibility. Respect is our way.

Step 3:  Identify examples and non-examples of the desired behaviour What would the behaviour look/sound like?

Examples

Using kind words and actions with each other Having conversations with each other when conflict occurs Coming up with ideas about how to solve a problemListening to each others ideas and thinking about which solution is the most respectful, kind and safe

What would the behaviour not look/sound like?

Non-examples

Yelling at other students when there is a problem

Swearing and using disrespectful language

Ignoring others when they are trying to talk to you

Talking about people behind their back when you have a problem

Telling your parents about friendship problems but not your classroom teacher
