Communicating with the Year One Team

We are very happy to be partnering with you in 2025, and welcome your input:

When communicating with the Year One team, please reach out via the below email addresses. Your child's class teacher is your first point of contact when requiring a discussion. You will usually see us outside the classrooms at the end of the day. This is the preferred time to catch us for a quick chat as we are focused on greeting the students before school.

Please also note that we have scheduled meetings at 3.45pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Year One Teachers:

Ms Zoe Bates (Class 1A) Zoe.Bates@education.vic.gov.au

Mrs. Julie Hall (Class 1B) Julie.Hall@education.vic.gov.au

Mrs Tanya Howell (Class 1C) Tanya.Howell@education.vic.gov.au

Capacity

We have been investigating the capacity of many containers.  The students estimated the capacity of a group of containers and then experimented to find the capacity of each and then order them in size. Mrs Hall began with water in the classroom, then students went outside to the sandpit for the hands on activity.

Mass

In class, we have been discussing how mass relates to the weight of an object.  The students recorded some estimates on a class-constructed anchor chart. We also learnt about the concept of ‘hefting’ and how it can be useful when deciding if something is heavier or lighter.

Upwey High School Band

On Friday, 11th October, the Upwey High School Band visited our school. The Year Ones enjoyed the different types of music played and participated in a dance-off at the end of the show!

Term Four Tricky Words

Please don't forget to practise 'tricky words' this term. These words have irregular spelling patterns and are often difficult for children to sound out; therefore need to be learnt through regular practise and repetition.

Take Home Readers

Each week, your child is provided with one hard copy reader to read for the week. We ask that the book is read 3-4 times per week and is logged into your child’s reading diary.

Your child’s reading diary and book needs to be brought back to school every Monday morning to be checked and swapped over by your child’s classroom teacher. We kindly ask that all books are taken care of and returned in good condition every Monday.

Specialist Timetable Term 4
