Week 3, Term 4

Performing Arts

PREP

Students will be exploring the dance element of space. They will experiment with moving in different levels, directions, and pathways, discovering how they can use the space around them in creative and expressive ways.

GRADE 1/2

Students are continuing to develop their drama skills. Through a range of activities and simple role plays, they will strengthen teamwork, focus, and creativity as they explore different characters and situations. Students will complete their year level's picture story book drama tasks.

GRADE 3/4

In drama, students will practise games that challenge them to stay focused, build confidence, and express ideas with both their voices and bodies. They will also continue developing their collaborative group performance, which is being created around the idea of a news report. Students will either finish their news report or take part in a role play where a problem or obstacle arises, and they must work together in character to find a solution.

GRADE 5

Students are revising the C and A minor chords on the ukulele and will then be introduced to new chords, including F, G, and G7. These chords will expand their playing skills and open up more possibilities for accompanying songs.

GRADE 6

Students are now beginning to put their creative projects into action. After developing and pitching their ideas, they are starting to rehearse, compose, or design their work, building towards a final showcase of their Performing Arts skills.

Physical Education

Hooptime

Last Friday, ten of our Year 6 students proudly represented our school at the Regional Hoop Time Finals held at Kilsyth Basketball Stadium. The team had a fantastic day, winning all three of their group games — several of which came down to very close finishes! Although they narrowly missed out in the final, every student played with outstanding spirit, effort, and teamwork, showing great respect for opponents and pride in representing our school.

A big thank you to our wonderful parents for assisting with transport and for being such an enthusiastic cheer squad throughout the day. What an amazing achievement — well done, team!

In the PE Classroom:

Prep

This week, our Prep students will continue to develop their catching skills through a variety of fun and active games. The focus will be on improving control, timing, and confidence when catching different types of balls and objects. Students will practise catching from different distances and heights, learn how to track the ball with their eyes, and use soft hands to secure the catch. We’ll also introduce some team and partner activities that encourage cooperation, communication, and persistence.

Grades 1 & 2

This week, our Grade 1 and 2 students will continue building their soccer ball control skills, with a strong focus on passing and striking. Lessons will include a mix of fun challenges and small-sided games that encourage students to use both feet, aim accurately, and control the ball with confidence. Students will practise passing to moving targets, receiving the ball with control, and striking towards goals in game-like situations. We’ll also continue to highlight the importance of teamwork, communication, and fair play, helping students understand how working together makes the game more enjoyable and successful.

Grades 3 & 4

This week, our Grade 3 and 4 students will continue developing their soccer skills, with a focus on ball control while dribbling, as well as refining their passing and striking techniques. Students will take part in a range of activities designed to build confidence moving with the ball, including dribbling through obstacles, changing direction, and maintaining control under pressure. They’ll also practise accurate passing to teammates and striking towards goals during small-sided games. Throughout the lessons, students will be encouraged to think about when and how to use each skill in a game situation, helping to improve their decision-making, teamwork, and game awareness. As always, the emphasis will be on enjoyment, fair play, and supporting one another on the field.

Grades 5 & 6

This week, our Grade 5 and 6 students will continue developing their skills in European Handball, building on their understanding of the game from last week. The focus will be on applying the core skills of passing, catching, and shooting in more dynamic and game-like situations. Students will take part in modified matches that encourage them to use strategic movement, make quick decisions, and work collaboratively as a team. We’ll place particular emphasis on transitioning between offence and defence, helping students recognise when to create space, defend effectively, and support their teammates. In addition to playing, students will have further opportunities to referee and lead small games, promoting leadership, confidence, and sportsmanship both on and off the court.

Visual Arts

During Art classes this week, students will be finishing and displaying their artwork in the BER for the ‘Australiana Art Show’ this Friday.

As part of the 130th Birthday celebrations, You are all warmly welcome to come and view the artwork that students have completed this year. They are very proud of it, as is their teacher!

On show will be:

- 2D and 3D artworks inspired by Australian artists.

- A seaside / under the sea showcase in the kitchen garden end of the BER.

- Australian animals, landscapes and flora artworks.

- Textiles, painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, collage ceramics and more!

- Over 2500 pieces of artwork for you to enjoy and admire!

There will also be collaborative framed artworks from each year level that will be auctioned off on the night. These will be showcased in the BER but will move up to the basketball court at 7pm for the live auction and end of the night birthday celebrations.

If you miss out on purchasing one on the night, you can buy a set of 10 gift cards with the artworks printed on the front.

And finally, don't forget to check out the silent auction items in the BER, including scarecrows that the students have all helped to make!

Open from 5-8pm Friday 24th of October.

Students will be viewing and responding to the artworks in week 4 in their art classes and then in week 5 they will be given a paper bag to carefully take all their work home.

Thankyou for supporting your child in their artistic adventures this year. We look forward to seeing you on Friday!
