Around the School

Grade 4 Newsletter
This term Grade 4 will be exploring the theme of ‘change’ in STEM. The students began their investigation into change by studying the changes that have occurred in their lives, physically, emotionally and socially in groups.
Next, we progressed onto discussing natural and human made changes all around us. The students were excellent at noticing the differences and to reinforce this, we all took some time outside to explore our surroundings and categorise the changes we see everyday here at Galilee.
For the rest of the term, we will engage in different experiments and studies which focus on materials and conditions changing and the consequences of such changes e.g water freezing changes it from liquid to solid form.
Digital Technologies in Upper Primary
Our Year 4 students have kickstarted the term by honing in on their typing skills. Our students are exploring the correct posture and finger placement when typing to ensure accuracy and boost their Words Per Minute (WPM) speed. Students are encouraged to continue practising these typing skills at home by logging onto: https://www.edclub.com/typingclub
Our Year 5 and 6 students are exploring Coding through a range of different Coding languages and building on their experiences with block coding. This term, we will be exploring Code.Org, Scratch, Python and Java Script to familiarise ourselves with the many different ways in which coding can be seen online.
Digital Citizenship Week is October 20–24, 2025
AI is Changing Everything. We're here to help.
Each year during the third full week of October, we celebrate an annual campaign to promote a healthy, balanced, and positive approach to media and tech use among young people.
At Galilee, we will be exploring how to support our students' digital well-being in the age of AI.
We will be delving into topics like: Critical Thinking, Curiosity, Creativity, Human Connection & Healthy Habits.
Keep an eye on Dojo to see what exciting activities we get up to! We appreciate your continued support as we help our youngest learners start to build healthy habits around tech!

Term 4 focus: Critical Thinking & Being Safe and Secure Online
Year 3&4:
This term’s Cyber Safety focus will be around the importance of not sharing personal information and the differences between scammers and hackers. We will identify red flags and navigate unsafe online interactions.
Conversation starters for home:
- What information should you keep private online?
- Why is this important?
- Discuss and share examples of “scams” you’ve both come across online.
- Check your child’s profile together on their favourite game/app- are there any changes you could implement to make their experience safer?
- Is there any information that should be made private?
Year 5&6:
This term’s Cyber Safety focus will be around what it means to be ‘critical consumer of media’. We will explore strategies to evaluate the credibility of online sources and protect ourselves from online scams or hacking risks.
Conversation starters for home:
Imagine a world where everyone believed everything they read/watched online.
- What do you think this would be like?
- Have you seen any deepfake images or videos online pretending to be someone?
- Why could this be dangerous?
- What sort of scams have you seen online?
- What were some of the ‘sus signs’?
- Who are some online celebrities? (e.g. MrBeast)

Seeds and Sprouts
Our Seeds and Sprouts program is now in full swing at Galilee.
Seeds is designed for children who will begin school in 2027, while Sprouts supports children starting school next year.
Through these sessions, students develop important fine motor, gross motor, prenumeracy, and pre-literacy skills. They also practise classroom routines and become familiar with our school environment, helping them grow in confidence and independence each week.
We are fortunate to have a dedicated group of Year 5 helpers who assist during these sessions. To take on this role, students were required to submit a letter of application, making it a valuable leadership opportunity.
It has been wonderful to see them building connections with their future buddies.
