Reflections on Term 3

Welcome back to St Patrick’s Library for Term 4.

What an adventure Term 3 was for our library at St Patrick’s! Book Week is a special time when schools and libraries across Australia join in the celebration of children’s literature. Our school was transformed into a parallel universe where characters from our favourite books walked among us. Hopefully you were able to join us and spot hundreds of characters, from Harry Potter, Where’s Wally and of course our fabulous Year 6 students who brought to life the magic of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. CBCA Book Week was first held in Australia in 1945. Since this time Book Week has become ingrained in our culture and is much more than a parade. At St Patrick’s it provides a golden opportunity for students to connect with books and associate reading with fun.

Congratulations!
Congratulations!

Congratulations to our Marilyn Cosgrove Award nominees and to our overall winner Avery. The prestigious Marilyn Cosgrove Award is presented annually during Book Week in memory of Marilyn Cosgrove, a former teacher at St. Patrick's and a celebrated author. This award honours one student from each class who has shown a strong love for reading or writing, or who has made significant progress in these areas. We congratulate Avery and wish her well on her reading journey.

Premier’s Reading Challenge Certificates

The PRC has now closed. Once finalised, all K-2 students will receive their certificates during library/class time towards the end of Term 4. Students in Years 3-6 who completed the Challenge independently will be presented with their certificates at one of our final assemblies. More details will be shared closer to the date.

After the excitement of Book Fair, Book Week and Premier’s Reading Challenge in Term 3, our library continues to be a hive of activity for students. It is wonderful to see our Early Bird readers use the library to enjoy some reading time. Our Passive Play students love to visit the library for colouring and quiet games at recess and lunch. On Fridays the library is full of the sound of our Amadeus music students who are working hard for their end of year performances.

Classes will continue to borrow books until Week 7. We ask all families to check for school library books at home and return all books in Week 8 for stocktake.
