Grade 6 Food Technology

As part of the Albanvale PS transition program, our Grade 6 students have chosen electives for Term 4. If your child has picked Food Technology I hope you are making sure you're receiving a hot breakfast on the weekend.

If you aren't fortunate enough to have a child undertaking Food Technology this term, here's a great excuse to spend some time together trying out their pancakes from last week.

As someone who may have wrangled a taste test - they were delicious!

Small-Batch Pancakes (Serves 2–3)

Ingredients

  • ½ cup self-raising flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter or oil
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla essence

(Optional: toppings like maple syrup, honey, fruit, or yogurt.)

Method

  1. In a medium bowl mix flour, sugar, and salt.
  2. In a jug whisk milk, egg, and melted butter/oil.
  3. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined (don’t overmix – lumps are okay!).
  4. Heat a frying pan on medium heat. Lightly grease with butter or oil.
  5. Pour ¼ cup batter into the pan for each pancake. Cook until bubbles appear on top, then flip. Cook for another 1–2 minutes until golden.
  6. Serve warm with toppings.
