Learning this term

First week back!

What a great first week back we have had. Our first week back has been full of relationship building and re establishing routines to set up for a successful term 4. We also had some inquiry days including our very own Shark Tank show by grade 5/6 where they were able to create a business and try and convince others to invest. It was a fun and engaging day of learning for the 5/6's.

Literacy

In Term 4, our P–2 students will be diving into two key writing genres: persuasive texts and recounts. Through engaging modelled, shared, and independent learning experiences, students will learn how persuasive texts aim to convince others to think or do something, as well as how to write detailed recounts of personal experiences. Alongside this, students will continue to strengthen their foundational literacy skills with daily Heggerty phonemic awareness practice and explicit phonics instruction, which support their reading and writing development.

Meanwhile, our Grades 3–6 students will also be exploring the persuasive genre, learning how authors structure arguments and use language to influence their audience. Later in the term, they will extend these skills by creating their own multimodal texts, combining written, visual, and digital elements to communicate ideas effectively. This focus on purposeful writing and creative text construction will help students develop confidence and versatility as communicators.

Foundation – Year 2 Mathematics

Counting and Place Value

Students are practising counting forwards and backwards, recognising patterns, and grouping numbers into tens and ones using games and hands-on materials.

Location and Direction

Through maps and treasure hunts, students describe and follow directions like left, right, forwards, and backwards to find and place objects.

Mass and Capacity

Students compare how heavy or full everyday objects are using informal units such as blocks, cups, and balance scales.

Data and Graphs

Students collect and organise simple data, then display their findings in tally charts, picture graphs, or column graphs.

Grade 3 - 6 Mathematics

Location and Transformation

Students are using maps and grids to describe positions and movement. They’re exploring flips, slides and turns to understand symmetry and transformations in shapes.

Four Operations

Students are practising efficient strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. They’re solving word problems and applying number facts to real-life situations.

Mass and Capacity

Students are estimating, measuring and comparing objects using kilograms, grams, litres and millilitres. They’re developing a stronger understanding of how measurement connects to everyday life.

Location and Transformation

Students are exploring coordinates, translations, reflections, rotations and enlargements on grids. They’re describing and creating transformations using mathematical language.
