Year 8 Students Shine in Queensland Science Contest

Two of our talented Year 8 students recently represented our school with distinction in the Queensland Science Contest, organized by the Science Teachers' Association of Queensland (STAQ).

Samuel Kelly conducted an impressive scientific investigation exploring different water filtration methods. His thorough research and experimental approach earned him an outstanding second place finish in the competition – a remarkable achievement that reflects both his scientific curiosity and dedication to the project.

Our second Year 8 participant, Aman Goud investigated the fascinating role of yeast in bread baking, examining how this tiny organism creates such significant changes in the baking process. Through careful experimentation and observation, he demonstrated excellent scientific methodology and a genuine passion for understanding the science behind everyday phenomena.

Both students should be incredibly proud of their efforts. Participating in external science competitions like the STAQ contest requires commitment, creativity and courage. They have represented our college admirably and shown what can be achieved when students pursue their scientific interests beyond the classroom.

We congratulate Samuel and Aman on their participation and particularly celebrate our second-place winner for his exceptional result. Their success serves as an inspiration to other students considering entering science competitions in the future. Well done to both our young scientists!

Innovation and Teamwork Drive Saints to Success in Robotics Challenge

Congratulations to the Saints Robotics Club, who achieved an impressive 4th place in the VEX 2025 FNQ Robotics Competition – Mix and Match!

The Mix and Match Tournament pairs teams from different schools to collaborate in surprise alliances, testing not only robot performance but also teamwork and adaptability under pressure. Students have to showcase their skills in robot driving, engineering and autonomous programming.

Our students demonstrated exceptional problem-solving skills, creativity and collaboration throughout the day. A huge thank you to Newman Catholic College for hosting this exciting event, their Parents Association for providing delicious refreshments and the QSITE volunteers for their fantastic work in organising and running the competition.

Well done, Team Saints – we’re proud of your hard work and innovation!
