City Experience

Year 9 students have just finished their City Experience. This is a series of excursions into the city where students learn to work as a team, make decisions while completing tasks and navigating their way around the city.

One important part of the excursion is the correct use of technology, where students are using their phones responsibly and to aid them in their tasks.

Students also learn how to use the public transport system, getting into and out of the city in the morning and afternoon, as well as around the city during their activities.

We were lucky to have great weather for the three days and students made the most of the time by visiting places such as: the MCG, ACMI, Eureka Skydeck, Lygon St, Southbank and many more.

Thank you to the school, staff and students for making this possible.

Year 8 Visual Communication Design

A key skill that modern designers should possess is an ability to translate, and enhance, freehand drawings in a digital environment. As part of their studies this term, Year 8 Visual Communication Design students have learnt how to use the program, Adobe Illustrator, to do this. For the task, each student was required to freehand draw at least four characters from their own imagination or use an existing character as inspiration. They then were required to select one of their drawings and recreate it using the tools and techniques taught in class for the program. Please take a look at the excellent work below and see how it has evolved from a pencil drawing to a digital recreation.

Japan Study Tour 2023

The students and staff on the Japan Study Tour 2023 are currently enjoying the culture and experiences of life in Japan, as well as honing their Japanese language skills.

This is a photo of me hitting the "bell" at the Takahata Fudo Grounds. I was in Fudo-do the oldest cultural structure of Tokyo . It was a magical moment for me as I was being taught how to hit the drum properly and experiencing part of the culture of Japan.

On this day, my host buddy and her friend took me to Asakusa to try on kimonos and to take a look at the shrine. We walked around Asakusa going through the variety of stalls with delicious food and cute souvenirs. My highlight was trying the different types of Japanese sweets and food, especially the dango. Overall, I had lots of fun on this day walking through the scenery of Asakusa.

This is a photo of the entrance in Takeshita Street, located in Harajuku. In this street, I was able to explore a variety of stores of clothing, food, and accessories. This was a special moment for me as I got see the vibrant neon lights with its colourful displays and busy shops, such as ‘Chicago’. It left me immersed in Tokyo's lively and unique culture.

My host buddy and their friends took me and a bunch of my friends to yomiuri-land which is an amusement park known for their famous illuminations. Throughout the day we went on most of the big rides and my highlight was going on the ferris wheel at the end of the day when it was dark. Although we went on a cold day we still had lots of fun and made many memories.

This a photo taken by me on a ferry near the top of Mt Hakone where there is a river.  It was a jaw-dropping experience to travel across a river that was close to the summit of Mt Hakone. For me it was tranquil to stare out into the vast river with its overeaching mountain tops and the rich blue colour. The swarming clouds created a sense of mystery for me, as if I was entering a new world in Japan.
