Creating Futures Together

The Wellbeing Team ended the term with a coordinated series of workshops facilitated by Headspace for our Middle School students (Years 7-9) covering topics such as Mental Health and Bullying, Looking Out For Your Friends and Self-Care. In addition to this, we connected with parents/carers via Zoom where we explored the topic of connecting with young people about their mental health with Headspace facilitator Candiece Tappin. It was lovely to have students, staff and parents participating in these workshops to further enhance our collective understanding of the importance of having ongoing mental health conversations.

Please see the link below for the Headspace Welcome Book. It has further information about Headspace and how students can engage and connect should they wish to in the future. Please also see Headspace’s Digital Resource Pack for parents who attended and also those who could not make it. This booklet includes a summary of the main themes covered in the workshop and also contact details for key national services should you wish to reach out.

Looking after your mental health and staying safe over the holidays

As term four comes to an end, we want to give you some resources to take with you to ensure you are taking care of yourselves and each other. Remembering that wellbeing encompasses many different elements and we need to tend to each element in order for our tree to thrive.

The holiday season can be a difficult time for some people who struggle to navigate the celebrations and festivities going on around them. They might be dealing with the strain of financial pressure, work demands, recent events, grief, or a challenging family situation.

You can make a difference by checking in and having meaningful conversations with the people in your world. Check out R U OK website for tips on how to start a meaningful conversation.

The Department of Education have provided a wonderful resource for parents and carers regarding wellbeing support for students during the school holidays, which can be found here. It covers:

  • Actions that support positive mental health
  • Signs a child or young person may need mental health support
  • Mental health support resources
  • Family violence support and resources
  • Self‑harm and suicide prevention resources
