Year 7 Humanities – Student Reflections:

We enjoyed learning about Business and Economics. We also enjoyed playing all the BLOOKETS leading up to our History test .

In Humanities, I enjoyed the way we learnt it this year. I loved playing all the BLOOKETS and enjoyed watching Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure to further develop my understanding of Historical Timelines. My favourite lesson was when we went to the Wheelers Hill shops to complete a Liveability Survey about the Environment. Overall, Humanities was fun and has taught me a lot, especially in History, since we didn't have that topic in primary school.

In Humanities, I learnt a lot about Ancient History. My favourite lesson was the excursion when we walked to the Wheelers Hill shopping centre and completed a survey on Livability. We also got to eat there which was pretty nice. Although Humanities isn’t my favourite subject, it still is one of the best subjects and is really good.

In Humanities 2023, our teacher, taught us all about History, Business, Economics, Geography and Civics and Citizenship. In term one, she taught us about geography, maps, and livability. And we even got to go on an excursion to the Wheelers Hill shopping centre, where we were given the opportunity to buy food. Then we went to the park, had a picnic, and ran around. We went there to fill out a liveability Survey. In term 2, we studied Business and Economics, where we learned about the law of demand and supply. And now (term 3) we are learning about History, including Ancient Greece. And we even got to watch a movie called Bill’s and Ted’s excellent adventure, while it was a fun movie we watched it to learn about important people in history. Overall I had heaps of fun, and really enjoyed Humanities this year!

Riley and I both liked learning about old things in our History term We liked learning about
evidence such as Otzi the iceman. We both saw his tattoo and found that it looked cool.
They found the equipment, we saw all of his hunting gear and campfire staff, we both liked it. Because it is proof of him living. How he found food for himself and how he kept warm overnight.
The mask of Tutankhamun, was discovered after being buried for over 3,000 years. But in 1925 Howard carter excavated the mask and is now on display the Egyptian museum in Cairo. We liked its design and colours.

Humanities has been an eventful subject, covering many intriguing topics. I particularly enjoyed learning about Geography, this took me by surprise for I hadn’t had much interest in this area before. I learnt about mapping and B.O.L.T.S.S in Geography and got to present my information in a poster which I really liked. It was also interesting to learn about livability and how to make changes to our world to make it a better place. We were very lucky to go down to Wheelers Hill shopping center and look at what needed improving. This was only the start of the fun we had in Humanities and the new topics I learned. Overall, I really like this subject this year and am excited for Humanities next year.

Humanities has been an enjoyable subject this year, it was fun to focus on a range of different things throughout the terms. Surprisingly I liked our Business and Economics Unit the best. It was interesting (to me) to learn about our current economic climate and educate myself on the world around me. I especially enjoyed making my BLOOKET at the end of the term and showing it to the class. I also enjoyed the History unit, I liked studying Greece towards the end of term and I read about Sappho, who was an interesting poet in Greek history. Overall. Humanities has been relatively enjoyable and I look forward to learning more next year.

Year 12 Business Management and Year 11 Legal Studies – Student Reflection

Humanities encompasses Business Management, Legal Studies and Accounting. I am undertaking Year 11 Legal Studies and Year 12 Business Management, as an advanced subject. I love Humanities because it provides the basic understanding for the courses that I wish to undertake at University. There are so many career choices within the Legal, Business and Accounting professions, which suit all types of interests and are applicable to all industries.

Undertaking an advanced subject of Business Management taught me to manage my time and tasks, whilst giving me an appreciation of the workload I will be facing next year for my other year 12 subjects. In business management, I learnt a range of concepts, from the foundations of the different types of businesses to the management of operations within a business. It has provided an insight into the different areas of business (e.g. human resources, operations management or the need for change) and highlighted my preferences for a future career.

Legal Studies provides general knowledge in many areas within criminal law (acts against society) and civil law (individuals’ rights and responsibilities) and informs students of their rights within society. We learn the key principles and concepts, whilst studying real life cases to further our understanding of the principles of law. I found Legal studies fascinating as it showed a different perspective on many topics other than your standard black and white approach of what is right and wrong. This enabled me to further develop my understanding in our legal system and court hierarchy.
