Principal Team's Report

Creating Futures Together

Welcome to our final newsletter for 2024. Whilst we are immersed in all the activities that come with the end of the year, as a staff we are all working in parallel to not only finalise the end of 2023 but to also prepare for 2024.

As we conclude the year there is much to be proud of.

Head Start Program

Over the past two weeks our senior students have commenced their Head Start Program. This event provides students the opportunity to prepare for their VCE studies by way of meeting their teachers, and building relationships whilst providing the forum to familiarise themselves with and commence their relative course requirements.

Spring Concert

On Monday 27th November, Fern Brisbane and I attended the Spring Concert. This evening provided a wonderful platform for our students to showcase their musical talents. I am certain an enjoyable evening was had by all who attended. We thank Kirsty Mechielsen and her team for organising this event.

Presentation Evening

On Thursday 7th December the College hosted its annual Presentation evening. This evening provides the opportunity to formally acknowledge and celebrate student achievements and excellence throughout the college. Thank you to all the students, parents/carers and staff who attended this evening to celebrate our wonderful students. A special thank you to David Gill and the Presentation Night Team (Jacinta Wilson, Georgina Walton, Phyllis Chee, Fosia Mohammed) who together, made this event the wonderful night that it was.

Units 3 and 4 Results Release

On Monday the 11th of December the Year 12 students receive their final results. We wish every one of you all the very best and hope that all your hard work pays off to set you well for your future endeavours. If you would like to speak with the Careers Coordinator, Mrs. Jakubicki will be available for consultation Monday 11/12, Tuesday 12/12 and Wednesday 13/12.

Year 7 State-wide Orientation Day

On Tuesday 12th of December, we extend a warm welcome to our 2024 Year 7 students who have the opportunity to sample a day in the life as a year 7. This day serves as a state-wide orientation day where students will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the College and further build relationships with one another as they commence their secondary school education at WHSC.  We wish them all a wonderful day!

Relocation Works

We are thrilled to advise the community that over the January break, we will be relocating a few key areas within the College. Specifically, the E Block building will be refurbished and converted into the Year 7 Centre. This will provide a more open space for our incoming Year 7’s who will have their lockers housed in one of each of the 5 classrooms. Through the use of these rooms, we aim to minimise student movement between lessons with the aim of further enhancing the support provided during their transition to secondary school. The Middle School Office will also be relocated to this area and housed in the current IT office.  As a result, the IT department will move to the Internal Student Coordinator's office, which will be serviced by a window accessible by students from the R block foyer. The final flow on from the relocation of these areas is the International Student Centre which will move into the current Middle School office area. The purpose of these moves is to strategically use spaces in a manner that best serves the needs of our students to ensure optimum learning conditions, support and connectedness.

In addition to the moves, we are also working with the Victorian School Building Authority who have contracted a building company to carry out some restorative works over the break as a result of the Rolling Facilities Evaluation undertaken earlier in the year.

Student Reports

A reminder to families that Reports will be available on Compass to download on the morning of Friday December 15.

Activity Week

A reminder that the Middle School students have their activity week commencing 13th December until the 15th of December. This concludes the formal program for the year. Teachers will be using the following week to finalise their preparations for 2024. Whilst there is no formal student program from Monday 18th to Wednesday 20th December, a program will be provided for any student who attends on these days.

2024 Dates to Remember

A reminder to all families that students are required back at school on Wednesday 31st of January. Please be advised that Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th January are student-free days. Teachers will return on Monday 29th January.

On behalf of the Principal Team, we wish everyone a safe and happy holiday period. We encourage all members of the school community to rest and recharge and spend some time doing something that truly makes your heart sing. See you in 2024!
