Reflecting on an Empowering Leadership Training Experience

On the 29th of November, Brentwood’s student leaders were given the privilege of attending a Leadership Training Program run by our guests, Yellow Arrow. It was with great pleasure that we were accompanied by three of their professional leadership counsellors, Felicity Neeson, Carolyn King, and Ahmad Nisar.

Before getting into the “heavier stuff”, the session started with a few get-to-know-you activities through games and icebreakers. Since we were all probably half awake and feeling socially anxious, this more or less gave us leaders a good chance to speak and get to know one another without crumpling into a ball and embarrassing ourselves.

Throughout the day, the training program provided us with useful insight into what it truly means to be a running leader of our school community, along with the responsibilities that come with it.Each of these activities which involved understanding our personality types and how they resonate with others, formulating and presenting speeches with knowledge of content and execution, as well as brainstorming potential ideas for the coming year ahead, aided in developing the skills and traits of the type of leaders that we aspire to be moving forward.

This was definitely an experience I was glad to be a part of, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing support from Ms Saathoff and the crew of Yellow Arrow.
