STRIVE

Heath Whiley

Last week, the Year 8s completed their STRIVE program with the annual Mount Wellington/kunanyi Walk.

Though the summit was inaccessible due to ongoing work by the Hobart City Council, the Year 8 students adapted admirably (navigating an additional couple of hundred meters) and were rewarded with breathtaking views as they made their way to the Chalet.

Students had to choose a starting point from Mount Carmel College, Waterworks, Fern Tree, or the Springs and find their way to the mountain's summit using various tracks.

Those starting from Mount Carmel navigated over 13km and ascended over 1000m to reach the top of the mountain.

It was wonderful to witness all students test themselves, set personal goals, and actively engage in the challenge. The mutual support and encouragement among students, acknowledged by both staff and even onlookers as we navigated the Mountain, were truly uplifting.

The hike, while demanding, was a collective accomplishment, evident in the beaming smiles and joyous expressions of the students upon reaching the end and returning to school.

Congratulations to the Year 8 students for embodying the complete spirit of each STRIVE attribute in conquering the Mountain.
