CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in Reading we are learning to identify the point of view of narrators in narrative  texts.


VOCABULARY

Narrator: A person that tells the story. The narrator determines the story’s point of view.

 

Point of view: What the narrator telling the story can see.

 

Perspective: The narrator’s outlook on the characters and events in the story.

 

Language features: Things that support meaning in language such as punctuation, words used, and descriptive language).

 

 


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Ask your child to choose a text (this can be their dot book, a text of their choice or the example text below) and ask them to identify the following:

 

Who is the narrator?

 

What perspective does the narrator have?

 

Why do you think the narrator has this perspective? (What language features does the narrator use?)

 

Example text:

 

“Oooooh!!!” I groaned, screwing up my face. I had to clean up my room and it was an absolute disaster zone. I really couldn’t be bothered cleaning right now.  “Do I have to?”. I held my stomach and looked at my mum sadly. “Please don’t pretend to be sick Sarah.” Mum said smirking, and I couldn’t help but laugh.
