Arts and Technology Exhibition 2024

The opening of the Arts and Technology Exhibition on Wednesday 15th November was a huge success and well attended by our school community.

The last on-site opening was in 2019 so it was great to be able to host an opening once again and enable the school community to experience student works first hand.

The refinement and diversity of the work produced by our students is always remarkable and this year was no exception.  Works in wood, metal, paint, photography, mixed mediums, design, media and textiles reflected the thoughtful and sometimes thought-provoking ideas and approaches student take in their creative journeys.

This exhibition would not go ahead without the hard work and support of many including the inspiring Arts and Technology teachers. Special thanks to the following - David Matters, Gabe Piras, Peter Vapp, Donna Ayres, Lauren McNally, Laura Cain-Asbury and Timothy Clifton along with our Visual Art student leaders for their roles in the exhibition.

The huge roles of Catherine Leigh in the administration of awards and certificates, Yasemin Ziada and the year 11 hospitality students in catering for the event and Ute Leiner for curating the exhibition was significant in the success of this event.

We would like to congratulate all the students for their participation and demonstrating creativity and excellence through their achievements.

Congratulations to the following students who were the recipients of the major awards on the night.

Montsalvat Clay Taster Program

Through the generosity of Montsalvat and in particular the Clay Talk Manager Sergei Shatrov, some of our year 9 and 10 students have had the opportunity to participate in a Clay Taster program.  This initiative was motivated by a desire to nurture and build on the relationship that exists between Eltham High School and Montsalvat and look for opportunities to educate and build connections with our students.

Several meetings have been held between Montsalvat and Eltham High to identify and discuss how the relationship between these two institutions can be fostered with the pilot clay program being amongst several initiatives we hope to implement.

Fourteen students were selected for this program after submitting an expression of interest to participate.

Over six weeks the students honed their hand building and wheel throwing techniques through the expert tutelage of Sergei and Rob who generously gave of their time to run the program.  Students were also supported by teachers Emma Shelton and Lisa Foote to walk to and from the Clay Talk facilities at Montsalvat each week.

The works these students were able to produce was nothing short of incredible in the short time they had to learn, build and hone their skills in areas of ceramic making.

Congratulations to Charlotte Baker (Year 10, Rutter House), Coco Bergmann (Year 10, Stewart House), Natasha Fentiman (Year 10, Stewart House), Rune Fitzmaurice (Year 10, Andrew House), Ava Green (Year 10, Rutter House), Danika Inglis (Year 9, Stewart House), Loren Liem (Year 9, Andrew House), Yasmin Maiorano (Year 9, Stewart House), Kate McRae (Year 9, Rutter House), Amelie Menzies (Year 10, Everard House), Lachlan Muller (Year 10, Stewart House), Sara Nye (Year 10, Everard House), Esther Power (Year 10, Stewart House) and Ellie Winnard (Year 11, Rutter House)for their participation and the recent exhibition of their work at both the Long Gallery in Montsalvat and our own Eltham High Arts & Technology exhibition.
