PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Mr David Whewell | Principal

Upcoming dates to end 2023

As the school year comes to an end, there are some important dates for your diary.  Please be aware that the 2024 Prep Information Session will be held on Thursday 30th November at 6:00pm.

Fun Day for all students is Monday 11th December. All students will meet their new teacher at 11:15am on Friday 15th December.  The last official day of school for our students is Tuesday 19th December.

Ms Nixon

Our Assistant Principal, Ms. Julie Nixon has been absent from school this term due to some health issues.  To give you an update, she is currently undertaking some tests and resting at home between her visits to hospital.

She did take a short trip interstate to visit her family members and has now returned and we are hoping to see her back at school at some stage soon.

She was happy to be informed that Ms. Shelden and Mr. Whewell have been feeding her pet magpies that gather outside her office each morning.

Enrolment process

We have nearly finalised our numbers for 2024.  Thank you to all the families that have contacted me to let me know that they are either moving from the area and ceasing their enrolment or joining our school community for next year.

I have fielded a number of expressions of interest for enrolment coming from the private school sector, who believe they are currently paying significant school fees and yet not receiving the same value as the families at Plenty Parklands.  If you know of any families looking for a new school, we do have places available in 2024 for families that live in the local area in Year 1 and Year 6.

New painted asphalt designs

Please take the time to check out our new board game and hopscotch designs around the school.  From what I am being told, it is the first time in ten years that these have been repainted, and it is very pleasing to see students accessing these fun activities during break times.

We continue to make improvements around the school and your children should be very proud of our facilities at Plenty Parklands.

New Staff for 2024

I would like to take the opportunity to welcome three new staff to our team for next year.  Mr. Nick Marchbank joins us from Northern Queensland, Mr. Jake Leslie is coming across from Whittlesea Primary School and Mr. Alex Campbell has been added to the team from Wollert Primary School. All three are very experienced male teachers who we are very fortunate to have recruited.

Driving around the school

We continue to see examples of dangerous driving at before school drop off and after school pickup each day at Plenty Parklands.  As the Principal of the school, I am responsible for all members of the school community.  Can I please ask parents to be wary of the dangers involved in illegal U-turns, double parking and children entering or exiting cars in the middle of a roundabout. We have had a number of parent complaints directly to Whittlesea Council, and Parking Inspectors will be onsite over the next two weeks.

Special Food Day

On Wednesday we had our fourth and final Special Food Day for 2023.  Students were excited to wear casual clothes and enjoy a sausage sizzle cooked by our maintenance man Mr. Surkitt, and our parent helpers.

Thank you to all our students that showed our Values when patiently waiting for food, and to our many parents who made the day possible for giving us their time.

A special thank you to Laura from the office for co-ordinating all these events throughout the year.  An approximate fundraising amount of close to $2,000.00 has been recorded.
