Term 4 - Week 8

Welcome to Week 8 Term 4.

The process to determine our 2024 Student School leaders began many weeks ago. All Yr 5 students took part in a Leadership Day before their Lake Keepit Excursion. Both the Leadership Day and the excursion allowed students to explore the concept of Leadership and ponder whether they wanted to nominate for a student leadership position.

Students who elected to, then presented a speech to their Yr 5 cohort. The Yr 5 students voted and narrowed down the candidates. These candidates then presented their speeches to year 4, 5 and 6 students. These students and all staff voted to determine who would be elected as our 2024 school leaders. We would like to congratulate all students who put themselves forward to be considered as leaders. It is not easy delivering a speech to your peers and staff and we acknowledge the effort that all those students went to, as the calibre of speeches was excellent.

In announcing the 2024 school leaders, it is important to acknowledge the wonderful work of our current 2023 student leaders. These students, along with their year 6 cohort have led the school this year and should be proud of the way they have conducted themselves and the legacy that they will leave behind. Congratulations to all our 2023 school leaders.

To our year 5 students, know that you will all be natural leaders of St Nicholas Primary School in your own way, whether it be in the learning spaces, out on the playground, on the sporting field or within the local community. Know that all year 6 students are role models to our younger students and you are certainly encouraged to lead with or without a badge. Whilst some students are disappointed in not receiving a badge, please know that your contributions to our school are valued, and everyone is excited to see you develop as leaders.

Leadership is not a position or title, it is action and example. You are encouraged to become the type of leader that people would follow voluntarily, even without a title or position. These are the leaders that are noticed and valued at St Nicholas Primary School.

Congratulations to our 2024 Student Leadership Team:

School Captains of St Nicholas Primary School - Hugo Clery and Isabella Harding-Brown

Vice Captains - Oscar McMurtrie and Zoe Sedon

Edmund Rice House Captains - Charlie Williams and Azarlee Ramirez

Dominic House Captains - Ben van Aanholt and Agatha Daly

MacKillop House Captains - Carter Brown and Ivy Rodda

Ozanam House Captains - Oliver Mulligan and Matilda Klasen

Please join me in congratulating our 2024 student leadership team.

Next week I look forward to joining our Yr 6 students for their Canberra Excursion. It is sure to be a wonderfully exciting week.

Have a great week

John Clery
