Captains' Farewell

Farewell

Presented below is the Farewell Speech that was delivered by Ri and Kai on behalf of all Year 6 students at the Graduation Mass last Friday.

Fellow classmates, today is a really special and important day in our lives, as we are celebrating the seven amazing years of the awesome Year 6’s. Today we are surrounded by all of the motivating and hard-working people who were determined to support us throughout our lives.

Good Morning, Mr O’Toole, Mrs Holland, Father Anthony, Sister Kathryn, teachers, parents, students and special guests. Today we are gathered here for the Year 6 Graduation Mass of 2023. First of all, we like to thank you all for coming today. For those who do not know us, we are your School Captains for 2023, Ri Quach and Kai Parker.

We would love to take this time to say adios to the incredible Year 6 students. However, before we all sadly go, we would like to take a trip down memory lane…

We have shared many funny moments, carnivals and fundraisers that have happened over our time here at St Joseph's. A particular highlight would be when Mr Paterson fell off his kayak at Lake Burrendong and when Miss O’Shea got swooped by a magpie in Canberra because she had a cheese scroll in her hand...... hilarious!

Thank you to our teachers who helped organise Lake Burrendong, without you, the excursion wouldn’t have been possible. We all definitely had a great experience spending time with our friends and classmates, enjoying adventurous outdoor activities together whilst laughing out loud and just having a fun time together as a stage in general. From the restless nights to the energised kayaking experiences it was an unforgettable memory we have made together.

Another great memory was when the captains got to go to the National Young Leaders Day in Sydney. We met a ton of motivating and inspiring people who taught us significant lessons for perseverance and life. Some additional memories that we’ve made include Athletics Carnivals, Cross Country and Swimming Carnivals.

We would like to thank the exceptional teachers and Principals at St Joseph’s. You have guided us through our seven years of schooling, offering ongoing support, care and exciting learning opportunities.

A special thank you to Father Anthony, who is one of the most admirable and kind hearted people we know. We all love the Masses you have held. Your friendly smile you have on your face every time we see you and your sidekick Vena, makes our day better.

We would especially like to thank our parents and guardians. Thank you for your ongoing love, support, wisdom and guidance. Although we may not always show it or say it, we greatly appreciate everything you have done for us during our primary school life.

To the Year 6 class of 2023, we are sure you are all prepared for the future journey ahead. We can’t wait for the exciting challenges and endless opportunities that high school will bring us. Our memories here at St Joseph’s will always be cherished for many years to come.

Remember that high school isn’t the end of the world. Of course, it is a massive leap in our lives but it’s just a small fraction of our journey.

As we look forward to our next stage in life at high school, let us commit to use all the knowledge and skills we have gained so far. By doing so we will be successful in all that is set before us. Let us be committed to be the best we can be and make ourselves proud.

So for the very last time,

On behalf of the St Joseph’s Year 6 class of 2023, we thank you!

Ri Quach and Kai Parker
