Discover the IB Difference

Is the IB Diploma Programme the Right Fit for Your Child?
As Year 10 students begin considering their senior pathways, many families are asking an important question:
Which pathway will best support my child’s strengths, interests, and future aspirations?
At Suzanne Cory High School, students have the unique opportunity to choose between the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) — two highly respected pathways that offer different learning experiences and opportunities.
The IB Diploma Programme is internationally recognised for its academic rigour, breadth of learning, global perspective, and emphasis on critical thinking, inquiry, communication, and independence.
Students undertake a balanced range of subjects while also developing essential lifelong skills through components such as:
- Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
- Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)
- The Extended Essay (EE)
The program is particularly well suited to students who:
- Enjoy curiosity-driven and discussion-based learning
- Thrive when challenged academically
- Have strong time management and organisational skills
- Enjoy maintaining breadth across multiple subject areas
- Are interested in developing global perspectives and transferable skills for university and beyond
Importantly, there is no single “better” pathway; only the pathway that best aligns with each student’s learning style, goals, and interests.
To support families in making an informed decision, our recent “Discover the IB Difference” Webinar explored:
- The differences between IB and VCE
- Subject structures and assessment styles
- Student experiences within the IB Programme
- University pathways and post-school opportunities
- How IB prepares students for life beyond secondary school
Families are encouraged to watch the webinar recording and continue conversations together about which pathway feels like the right fit for their child.
