Curriculum Matters

National Simultaneous Storytime
National Simultaneous Storytime was a wonderful event where students from Foundation to Level 6 came together to read Luna Roo.
Each year level participated in a fun-filled activity related to the book's themes of teamwork, courage and self-belief.
Foundation and Level 5 created crowns of Luna Roo, while Levels 1 and 6 designed Shields of Courage.
Levels 2 and 3 made creative bookmarks with motivational quotes, and the 4s crafted Shields of Courage.
The day was buzzing with laughter, collaboration, and a shared love for reading!

🦙🦙🦙🦙 No Prob-Llama! 🦙🦙🦙🦙
This week in our SEL lessons, the Foundation students have been learning how to be caring friends, solve small problems and work together happily.
The students explored what good friends say and do, including:
- Using kind words
- Taking turns
- Sharing toys and games
- Listening to others
- Including everyone in play
We introduced the catastrophe scale to help the students understand the difference between a small problem, a medium problem and a big problem.
We talked about questions like:
- Is this problem huge or tiny?
- Will it matter tomorrow?
- Can I solve it myself or do I need help?
To celebrate our learning, students created adorable “No Prob-Llama” crafts! The classrooms were bursting with colourful llamas. The finished creations will brighten our learning spaces and will remind us that we can stay calm, be kind and solve problems together.
Level 1
During Literacy, Level 1 students have been busy revising their sounds through a range of engaging and fun activities. One favourite activity has been “Popcorn Sort,” where students practiced identifying and sorting sounds in an interactive and exciting way. We also created a wonderful ‘common noun’ town with pictures of different nouns.
In Numeracy, students have been learning to add numbers to 20 using the “Building to 10” strategy. They have explored this concept using dominoes, unifix cubes, and a variety of hands-on materials to support their learning.
As part of our Inquiry unit on Materials, students have also been exploring how different materials can be used in construction by building bridges outside. They worked collaboratively to design and create bridges using a range of materials, testing their ideas and thinking carefully about strength, balance, and structure.
Tuesday 26th May was ‘Sorry Day’ . We listened to the story ‘Finding our Heart’ and reflected on what ‘Sorry Day’ means while colouring pictures of a native hibiscus purple. Did you know that the five-petal Native Cotton, Desert Rose, or Native Hibiscus as we know it, is recognised by the National Stolen Generations Alliance as the official symbol for Sorry Day. This purple flower can be found all over Australia. It was chosen by members to symbolise the Stolen Generations resilience and survivor instinct with the colour denoting compassion and spiritual healing.
We also had a lovely time celebrating Education Week, especially spending time with our grandparents and special friends at the Biggest Morning Tea.
Kaboom! sports was another highlight with all the different activities and high energy vibes on the oval. We also enjoyed simultaneous storytime with our Level 6 buddies and the games session where we could choose to play pickleball, relay races or picnic games with our friends!
Level 2
Double the Celebration, Double the Fun!
This week, our Level 2 students enjoyed not one, but two exciting events - Kaboom Day and The Biggest Morning Tea! It was a week filled with laughter, treats, and plenty of smiles.
Kaboom Day was a blast, with students participating in high-energy games and activities that got everyone excited. From team challenges to creative challenges, the energy was contagious, and the fun was endless!
Then, we celebrated The Biggest Morning Tea! A wonderful opportunity to come together, share delicious snacks, and support a great cause. Students enjoyed tasty treats while chatting with friends and teachers, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere.
What a fantastic way to bring our community together!
Level 3
This fortnight in Level 3, we have been learning how to use a dictionary. We have been exploring how to use the guide words at the top of the dictionary to help us and we have had lots of fun testing these skills with a game of dictionary hunt.
When the weather has been good, we have been outside testing how far we can jump and using 1 meter tape measures to accurately measure the distance we can jump. It's been very good for our confidence when we estimate a distance and jump more than it.
Lastly, we got to celebrate Education week with a variety of fun activities. We attended an open night and participated in Kaboom. We got to do a NSS activity with the Level 2 students, eat all the food we like at the Biggest Morning Tea and verse our teachers in some epic staff vs student games. Overall, it was a busy but fun week.
Level 4
🌏 Inquiry: Places Near and Far 🌏
This week in Inquiry, our Level 4 students have been exploring the topic “Places Near and Far,” with a special focus on our local community.
Students have been learning about the important places we use in our everyday lives and how they support the people who live there. We discussed key community locations such as schools, libraries, parks, medical centres and local shops and the roles they play in helping a community function.
As part of our learning, students:
- Identified different types of education settings, including primary schools, secondary schools and early learning centres
- Explored the variety of local businesses, such as supermarkets, bakeries and cafes and how they provide goods and services
- Reflected on the places we visit regularly and why they are important to them
- Began mapping familiar locations in our local area and discussed why they are situated where they are.
Students have enjoyed making connections between their own experiences and the wider community.
We look forward to continuing our exploration of places beyond our local area in the coming weeks!
Level 5
This week, Level 5 students have been exploring area and perimeter through a fun and hands-on beach towel investigation.
Using different sized beach towels, students measured the length and width to calculate the perimeter and work out the area covered by each towel. They compared and discussed which towels had the greatest area and how different dimensions can change the perimeter.
The activity encouraged problem-solving, teamwork and real-life mathematical thinking, while helping students build confidence using measurement skills in an engaging and practical way.
Level 6
Sorry Day: Level 6 Reflection
As part of National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week, the Level 6 students explored the Indigenous perspective of the Stolen Generations through videos, movies, interviews and story books. These learning experiences encouraged thoughtful discussion and helped students develop empathy and understanding of the lasting impacts on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Students then chose how they would respond to their learning, encouraging personal reflection on Australia’s past, present and future, and the importance of reconciliation. This allowed students to engage with the topic in meaningful and respectful ways.
