Pentecost is one of the most significant feasts in the Christian calendar because it marks the moment when the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles and transformed a frightened group of disciples into courageous witnesses of Christ. It is often called the birthday of the Church, because from this moment the mission of proclaiming the Gospel to all nations truly began.

The word Pentecost comes from the Greek pentēkostē, meaning “fiftieth,” referring to the Jewish feast celebrated fifty days after Passover. In the early Church, this day took on a new and profound meaning. As described in the Acts of the Apostles, ‘the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples in the form of wind and tongues of fire’. This moment fulfilled Jesus’ promise that the Father would send an Advocate to strengthen and guide His followers.
Pentecost reveals the fullness of the Trinity the Father who sends, the Son who redeems, and the Spirit who empowers. It marks the shift from a small, hidden community to a bold, missionary Church. For us as Catholics, Pentecost is a reminder that the Holy Spirit continues to work in the Church and in each of us. The same Spirit who strengthened the apostles strengthens us to be people of courage, compassion, and faith. Pentecost invites us to listen for the Spirit’s voice, to use our gifts for the good of others, and to bring Christ’s love into our families, school, and community.
As we celebrate Pentecost, we give thanks for the Spirit who guides our Church and inspires our hearts. May this feast renew in us the fire of God’s love and remind us that we, too, are called to be witnesses of hope in our world.
On Friday 12 June at 9:15am, our school community will gather in the Church to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart, a day that invites us to reflect on the deep and unconditional love of Jesus for all people. The image of the Sacred Heart reminds us that Christ’s love is compassionate, generous, and always open to those in need.

This feast has long been connected with acts of service and charity, as Catholics are called to imitate the heart of Jesus by showing kindness, mercy, and care for others. As we come together for Mass, we pray that our own hearts may be shaped by His gentle, welcoming, and full of hope.
We warmly invite all families to join us for this special celebration as we honour the Sacred Heart and ask Christ to guide our school community in love. Children are to wear their full school uniform that day.
For the first time ever, visitors will step inside a purpose-built structure that evokes the scale, atmosphere, and splendor of the Chapel itself, offering a profound encounter with the art, history and imagination of the Renaissance in a way never before possible.
Whether you come as a lover of art, a student of history, a seeker of beauty or the sacred, or simply curious, this exhibition is designed for you.
Families are invited to visit the remarkable Sistine Chapel Exhibition, on display in the forecourt of St Mary’s Cathedral from 16 May to 19 July 2026. This exhibition features full‑scale, high‑quality reproductions of Michelangelo’s famous frescoes, allowing visitors to experience the beauty and detail of the Sistine Chapel as if standing beneath its ceiling in Rome.
The exhibition unfolds in two distinct spaces:
The Introductory Gallery

An introductory space that provides an informative tour of the history, architecture and purpose of the Sistine Chapel from its construction in the 15th century to its role in papal conclaves, and the tourist attraction it is today. Discover the Chapel’s enduring global and cultural significance, and explore the Renaissance world that shaped its creation: The artistic genius of Michelangelo and the other masters who painted its famous frescoes, and the stories depicted across the ceiling, walls, and iconic The Last Judgement.
Be immersed in a spectacular, large-scale digital recreation of the Sistine Chapel interior. Using ultra-high-resolution images from the Vatican Museums’ archives, the exhibition allows visitors to see details invisible to the naked eye – brushstrokes, expressions, colour and narrative – accompanied by curated audio and interpretive storytelling.
It is a wonderful opportunity for students and families to explore the intersection of art, faith, and history in an accessible and inspiring setting. From the Creation panels to the Last Judgment, the exhibition offers a powerful encounter with one of the Church’s greatest artistic treasures.

A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful SRC students for leading today’s Crowning of Mary with such reverence and care. Your leadership in collecting the class prayers and placing them before Mary helped create a truly beautiful moment of faith for our whole school.
Thank you also to all students, staff, and families who joined us in prayer during this special celebration in the month of May. Your presence and participation helped honour Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and reminded us of the strength and unity of our school community.
