Beyond the Classroom - Camps

Over the first half of the year, our Year 7, 8 and 9 students have all participated in their respective camp experiences, providing valuable opportunities for learning, connection and personal growth beyond the classroom.

Our Year 7 students travelled to Melbourne, where they explored the city while engaging with key concepts from their English, Humanities and Religious Education studies. The experience allowed students to bring their classroom learning to life, while developing independence and confidence in a new environment.

Earlier in the year, our Year 8 students attended camp at Waratah Bay. A key focus of the camp was building new friendships and strengthening connections within their year level. Students were also challenged to step outside their comfort zones through a range of activities, including testing their abilities in the surf and embracing new experiences.

Our Year 9 students recently returned from their week-long adventure at Camp Coolamatong. This experience challenged students both physically and mentally through activities such as overnight hiking, bike riding, canoeing, bush cooking and outdoor living. The camp focused on developing courage, resilience and a willingness to move beyond familiar comforts in order to grow as individuals.

At Mary MacKillop Catholic Regional College, camps play a vital role in fostering our culture of excellence, growth and belonging. While students develop important practical skills and create lifelong memories, they also learn valuable lessons about teamwork, perseverance, leadership and service to others.

These experiences strongly reflect our College values of Respect, Responsibility, Courage and Wisdom. Whether supporting a peer during a challenging activity, demonstrating resilience when faced with uncertainty, or embracing opportunities for personal growth, our students consistently represented the College with pride.

We extend our sincere thanks to the many staff members who generously gave their time and energy to make these experiences possible. Camps require significant planning, organisation and commitment, and we are grateful for the dedication shown by our staff in supporting our students.

Most importantly, we congratulate our students for the enthusiasm, positivity and courage they displayed throughout each camp experience. The growth we witness during these programs is a reminder of the importance of providing opportunities that challenge students, strengthen relationships and build a strong sense of community.

These camp experiences continue to be a valued part of life at MMCRC and an important contributor to the formation of confident, capable and connected young people.
