PRINCIPAL UPDATE

Well done to those students who competed in the District Cross Country a couple of weeks ago. It was wet, cold and hard to watch, so we were very proud of our students, their determination and grit on the day.
Congratulations to Molly R (1st), Conor M (2nd), Sam M (6th), and Gracie (7th) in their respective age categories who have progressed to the Regionals in Keilor. An amazing effort by them and we wish them good luck for the next round.
It was lovely to see so many parents visiting classrooms on Friday May 22nd to celebrate Education Week. We enjoy sharing our learning and routines within the classroom and it was great to see parents helping out in the Art room on the hot glue guns, undertaking Maths daily reviews with the Grade 6 students, along with participating in reading and writing Literacy blocks with their children. Thank you to those able to make it in on the day.
A very big thank you to our Junior School Council members for their organisation of Walk to School Day. They did a great job handing out stickers and fruit to students upon arriving at school on Friday May 22nd, arriving at 8am to prepare for this event. Well done JSC.
Families will also notice new music played across the day for the bell. Again, thank you to JSC for surveying classes and deciding on the new music. Some great tunes for us to enter the classroom each morning!
I have recently contacted the City of Greater Geelong again regarding traffic management and parking around our school grounds. I have concerns in regard to the movement of traffic, illegally parked cars, along with students and parents running across the road in between parked cars.
Over the past few months, we have had 2 students hit on bikes, multiple near misses and many occasions whereby parents are not engaging in respectful ways towards each other. Can we remember if using the laneway, we head south from Huntingdon, not up from Fairview. We do not park in any of the laneways. Please be mindful of our actions and aware that we are in the company of young people, along with the fact it is important to be patient when collecting your children. It will be slow at that 3:30pm timeslot, so take a breath, take your time and look out for everyone in our community. I thank you in advance for this, and appreciate people being respectful and calm.
Prep classes have been having special visitors into the classroom that have included parents, grandparents and local community members to share stories about their professions. We have had visits from a Surgeon, Emergency Department Doctor, Psychologist, Anaesthetist and our very special crossing staff Simone and David, with more to come in the coming weeks. We thank our special guests for taking the time to visit Chilwell and tell our Prep students all about their jobs!
Busker’s Day is finally here this Friday at 2:30pm. We cannot wait to see the students perform on Friday. Weather permitting this will be around our school grounds for everyone to enjoy. Students are asked to bring some gold coins to donate to the Buskers that will go to Fight MND (Motor Neuron Disease) and GAWS (Geelong Animal Welfare Society). So, come along Friday a little earlier for pick up and see our Grade 5/6 stars in action. You will see a variety of different acts including singing, dancing, band, comedy, magic and so much more. Thank you to Annie our Performing Arts Teacher along with the Grade 5/6 students for this event.
