Faith and Mission

Today, we mark World Environment Day, a global invitation to reflect on the care of our common home and the responsibility we share for the wellbeing of our planet.
For us as a Catholic community, this day holds a deeper significance. It reminds us that creation is a gift from God, entrusted to our care. The natural world is not simply a resource to be used, but something sacred to be respected, protected and cherished.
Our College motto, Seek Justice, calls us to respond. Environmental care is a matter of justice. It asks us to recognise that the impact of environmental damage is not felt equally. It is often the most vulnerable who carry the greatest burden. To seek justice, then, is to act in ways that honour both the earth and the dignity of all people.
World Environment Day invites us to reflect on the relationships at the heart of our faith. We are called into right relationship with God, who is present in all of creation. We are called into right relationship with one another, especially those most affected by environmental challenges. And we are called into right relationship with the earth itself through responsible, sustainable choices.
This is not only about large actions. It is also about the small, daily decisions that shape our lives. How we use resources, how we reduce waste, how we care for the spaces we share. Each choice is an opportunity to live out our values and contribute to a culture of care.
Today, may we pause with gratitude for the beauty of creation. May we grow in awareness of our responsibility. And may we act with courage and hope, seeking justice through the way we care for our common home.

A special thank you to Fr John Hill CSsR from the Redemptorist Monastery for celebrating with us and breaking open the readings. Next Friday, students in St Louis House will prepare the liturgy.
