Year 1 Team
Year 1: Look at that term! I like that term! That is a niiiiiiice term!
This term has been a busy one and an absolute blast learning about many things! The students have all been working really hard every day to progress their learning in all areas.
We have been exploring and experiencing a lot of different types of learning both in and out of the classrooms.
During this term the students have been developing their understanding of the genres of Procedure and Information Reports. We followed procedures to experience some awesome volcanoes, build sand castles and make fairy bread. We enjoyed watching the outcome of our own procedures when the students wrote a cookie recipe for the teachers to make! The cookies didn’t taste very good at all as some recipes forgot to include cooking the cookies! We also followed a procedure of how to make chalk paint and then went outside and painted with it!
We produced some amazing information reports about many different things. We explored how to research about different animals, places and objects using iPads and then how to sort out important information from just basic information.
We have been very busy in Maths this term with many topics covered. The students have worked on time and created a giant clock to help show the teachers what they already know about clocks. They were then able to work on telling the time to the hour and half past the hour using their own clocks that they made in class. During our place value and number pattern sessions, the students demonstrated their knowledge of building number patterns with different maths materials and made numbers using MAB blocks. When we explored fractions, we halved many things around our room including our fairy bread!
Our School Wide Positive Behaviour lessons have seen all Year 1 classes come together for some team building activities. The students have been positively working as a team to undertake activities such as designing the tallest standing tower with a newspaper and a metre of masking tape and building cup towers working in groups of four by controlling the cup with an elastic band and string. It has been amazing to see the teamwork and resilience that our students have shown during this time together.
It has been a really productive and exciting term of learning! We’re looking forward to the final term of Grade 1 for 2023.
