Term 3 - What a special time of the year at Belmont High School, particularly for our Year 12s who are currently making plans for Valedictory, Graduation and life after high school. For our Vocational Major (VM) and non-scored students, this will be their final term with us, and the culmination of their schooling journey. Our Year 11s are starting to think about leadership roles, and other year levels have chosen their subjects for 2024. As we prepare for Term 4, it’s an important time for reflection. What has been accomplished so far? How have we been of service to our school and wider community? How have we overcome challenges we’ve come across along the way? How have we shown gratitude to those who support us at school and at home? How can we keep striving to build a better version of ourselves each day that goes by, and make the most of the fabulous opportunities that are available to us at Belmont HS? What have we learnt? Now, here’s a look at some recent highlights.
Music Comp 2023 – This year’s theme was ‘Opposites Attract’. PJ and Harry lead the Ebony music rehearsals. Harry carefully arranged the music, while PJ was a superstar band manager efficiently communicating with teachers and band members, and organising logistics. Allison got the party started when it was Ebony’s time to perform and did a wonderful job in getting the large crowd involved, what a leader! Archi, also a valued member of the Ebony music leadership team, and Marius, who dressed up as our brand-new panther mascot and really embraced the house spirit, played with confidence and gusto. A special mention goes to Charlie from 8E, who stepped up to join the senior musicians and looked like an absolute professional; what an inspiration for our junior students! Their performance of Queen’s Another One Bites the Dust and Sir Elton John’s I’m Still Standing got the gym shaking with excitement and claimed us second place… thank you to everyone who helped with making this wonderful day happen, including all student helpers (Ilia and Brendan in 12E, Sonny 9E, Theo and Ollie 8E were absolute stand-outs, along with many others), and the music team lead one of our very own Ms Humphrey (12Y form teacher).
Celebrating Excellence in
Congratulations to Oscar Waring 12Y for being awarded the prestigious Tuckwell Scholarship at ANU, his participation at the London International Youth Science Forum and for being such a great role model by sharing his experience during school assembly.
Well done to Flynn Scargill in 7E for representing Australia at the baseball world championships in Japan earlier in the year. As part of this experience, Flynn experienced life with a Japanese family as part of his homestay.
Congratulations to Will Burch 7E, who has been selected to represent Victoria at the upcoming U13 Australian Championships in Newcastle from Sept 23 – 29. He has shown incredible commitment and dedication throughout the rigorous 3-month process of selection sessions and training at the State Hockey Centre in Melbourne. He plays mainly in defence and loves to wear his distinct white headband! He’s also absolutely thrilled to be announced as CAPTAIN of his U13 Victorian Volt team at the championships. A huge honour indeed. Good luck Will, go Vics!
Kudos to the 8E group for producing some impressive work during CAT fortnight, particularly for their humanities geomorphic hazards project and English persuasive speeches. This group is collectively and consistently striving for the highest! Keep it up 😊
Until next time,
Ms Cologni and the Ebony House Team
