Year 4 Update

We have had a very busy 2 weeks in Year 4. The fortnight started with our annual Book Week Parade. Well done to all the students (and parents) for the creative book character costumes that were on parade. We spent the week exploring the CBCA Book of the Year Awards and engaged in an author study on Michael Wagner - an Australian author whose picture book "Dirt by Sea" received an Honours Award in the picture book category this year, and whose book series Nice Garry is being read by the Year 4s. The students also planned and drafted their own version of Michael Wagner's book Why I Love Summer.

Week 8 was Child Safety Week and the classes have been having great discussions about Safety: Situational Awareness, Body Safety and Planning for Safety. We also had the pleasure of having Michael Wagner come and speak to all the students on Tuesday. Whilst teaching the students about developing ideas for stories, he told some really funny stories of his own.

"Michael Wagner was very funny and gave us good ideas for writing." Ethan Leejo (4CC)

"I really liked the video his daughter had recorded of him playing footy in the back garden. I also really liked his message that all ideas for stories come from you brain and noticing the world around you." Eason (4JH)

"Everyone of Michael Wagner's books are interesting. I really like the humour and have loved reading 'The Undys' series." Jasper (4PS)

Inquiry

We have continued creating our Fractured Fairy-tale Puppet Plays this fortnight. The students have been busy finalising their scripts, creating backdrops, and designing and constructing the puppets. It has been wonderful seeing the students displaying their creativity and working on their teamwork. Over the next fortnight, the students will be practising, filming and editing their puppet shows.

We finished this week with a lovely Father's Day lunch on the oval. Thanks to all the dads and grandpas who were able to come along and enjoy this time together. We wish you all a Happy Father's Day this Sunday.

We still have lots of great activities planned for the last 2 weeks of the term, so please take note of the important dates below.

Have a lovely weekend.
