Book Week
We had a great time in all the groups this week celebrating Book Week! So many great costumes. It was lovely that the children got to share some of their favourite books from home, that are different to ones at Kinder.
The 4 YO's all became authors and illustrators, writing their own stories and drawing the pictures to go with them.
4YO Excursion
On Wednesday our 4 YO's ventured off to Blackburn Lake Sanctuary. The weather managed to hold out for us and we got to explore without any rain! The children enjoyed looking at different animals habitats and finding evidence of the animals that live at the lake all around them. We were super impressed how the children listened through the talk from the ranger and all walked beautifully through the Sanctuary. We bet they were all pretty tired though after our bug walk!
Reconciliation Action Plan
As a service we are developing a Reconciliation Action Plan. What does reconciliation mean? This is a question often asked in Australia. Every individual and group will have their own definition of reconciliation. What reconciliation means and what it looks like in our service is up to us as a staff and our community. Our Vision for Reconciliation is intended to be an aspirational goal that is shared by all staff and the community. We want to consult with the community while developing this vision as this is really important for our vision to be achieved. We encourage all our community to engage in this process and ask that you submit any ideas or thoughts to us that you have about what reconciliation should look like here at Vermont Primary School Kindergarten. Please speak to any of the staff or send an email to Vermont.Kin@Kindergarten.vic.gov.au . We will be offering other opportunities to get involved in the future.
Some questions to consider when we develop our Vision:
- Why do you think it is important for all Australians to have a strong and shared awareness of past and present inequalities? How will this help to shape a stronger future of reconciliation for Australia?
- Think about what ‘identity’ means to you. Who do you identify as, and/or, with? What is your nationality and heritage and how important is this to you? (How) do Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and heritage feature in your personal sense of identity?
- How and what were you taught about Australian history? From whose perspective(s) were you taught about Australian history? Is there anything that you wish you learnt more about regarding Australian history? What do you think some of the key things younger generations of the future should learn about Australian history?
2024 Enrolments - Update
We are currently looking at placements in groups for children in 2024. Once these are finalised we will be sending out the group allocations. This should be within the first couple of week of Term 4. Along with the group allocations we will send out details about the Information Night and orientation process. Keep an eye out for emails coming mid October.
