From The Principals

Important updates from Mrs Mann, Mrs Cook & Mrs Strachan

Welcome to another issue of The Nurlendi news, and what a busy fortnight it has been! We have had our Book Week celebrations, excursions, sports days, whole school incursions, Father's Day stall and special lunch as well as our spectacular Maths night. We have also had all the fun of the Teacher V Students Footy match, as well as an indoor soccer game! Wow! What a huge few weeks we have had! With only two weeks left of the term, we are looking forward to our Parent Teacher Interviews next week. These interviews are a great opportunity to discuss your child's social, emotional and academic progress and strategies to help support them to continue to thrive.

Moving to Compass

We wanted to let our families know that Vermont Primary School will be moving away from Sentral as our communication platform, to Compass in 2024. Many of you may be familiar with Compass, and know that one of the advantage of it is that it incorporates both the communication and payment portals in one. This will mean that from 2024, we will no longer be using Sentral for attendance and reports, or Qkr! for payments. Both of these things will happen via Compass, and can all be accessed through a single app. Many of you who have older children may already use Compass and know that it is an easy-to-use program. There will be information about how to migrate across from Sentral to Compass during Term 4, ready to start 2024 !

Hats

A reminder that students are now required to wear hats, as per our sunsmart policy. Please ensure that all hats are clearly named so they can make their way back to the right person if they go missing! It is great to also get your students in the habit of applying their own sunscreen, and having this in their bags as well as their hat.

Maths Open Night

Last night we had a tremendous number of parents ad students attend the Family Maths night. This was a wonderful celebreation of maths learning, thinking and playing with families spending some time learning  range of fun and engaging maths games. There are so many ways to incorporate mathemetical thinking, reasoning and discussion into your everyday lives, and it is so important for students to see maths as something that they will use every day. A huge thank you to the Maths Team for their hard work preparing and delivering this event.

Science Week & Science Expo

Next week we will celebrate Science Week with a series of days and special events. On Wednesday, all students in F-6 will rotate through 3 different science activities  from making circuits to foaming science. We are very grateful to the support of Woolworths Vermont, Coles and Bunnings Vermont South for helping us with supplies for this day. On the Thursday students will attend the Jolly Bops Incursion and the grand finale will be our Science Expo. All families are invited to come to the stadium on Friday from 3 - 5pm (last entry 4.45pm) to view the science work our students have produced this term. Our wonderful Community Network will also be putting on a sausage sizzle and these can be purchased near the Stadium. A big thank you to the Science & Technology Team who have been working hard for many months to put this event together.

Indonesian in Term 4

This term, Indonesian lessons have continued to be provided to students through the help of a dedicated team of teachers who have busily been planning and assessing students, delivered by Mrs Clark, a regular CRT. We are pleased to announce that Mrs Clark has been appointed in a specialist position for the remainder of the year, but for Term 4, will be teaching Science instead of Indonesian. Indonesian will still be covered through class activities and several exciting whole school events that are planned that will explore cultural elements of the Indonesian people including dance, history, animals and plants, food and celebrations.

Father's Day Stall

The members of our Community Network have once again created a terrific opportunity for our children to purchase gifts for their dads, grand dads or special friends. They have been hard at work collating a variety of gifts for many months. Thank you to everyone who has assisted with the stall. It was amazing to see so many parents putting their name on the roster.

2023 Scholastic Book Fair

During Book Week we were very lucky to be able to offer a BOOK FAIR to our school community. You will be pleased to know that our VERY conservative goal setting of $3500 was actually doubled. We sold approximately $8900 of the stock, earning a commission of approximately $2600. We are currently talking with staff and students about a range of books we can purchase for the school.

If your child was on the reorder list, they should have received their books by now. Thank you everyone for your support with this.  Special thanks to our Librarian Emma Stroud for all of her efforts and to the Library Monitors and Year 6s who also assisted us for the week.

Father's Day Lunch

Today we had such a wonderful turn out to our Father's Day lunch. There were so many visitors to school, lots of yummy lunches being shared and plenty of smiles around the playground. Be sure to check out some photos and videos from the day on the school Instagram page!

We would like to wish all the Dad's, Grandad's, Uncles, Big brothers and other special people in the lives of our VPS students a very Happy Father's Day this Sunday.

Professional Practice Day

Just a reminder that Monday 11st of September is a Professional Practice Day for teachers, and will be a student free day.

Have a great weekend,

Jess, Joy & Jacci
