SAINTS BOARDING

News from Brett Toombs

Director of Boarding

Commencement of Term 4

It has been a relatively smooth start to Term 4 boarding as most students arrived back from holidays in a timely manner and have started the term well. Thank you to our parents for organising flights and travel to assist the school for the commencement of the term. Special thanks as well to Mr Carswell and Ms See Kee for all the preparation and work with ABSTUDY in booking return flights for our students.

There were, however, several boarders who did not return on time, without any pre-approved leave arrangements. If boarders are  returning late for the start of a new term it is imperative that boarding and the day schools are informed so that appropriate leave arrangements can be made. Ideally, all boarders should return from holidays on time.

Term 4 is relatively short, with only eight weeks before the end of the academic year. Students at both colleges finish on Friday 24 November, and, as always, our boarders will be at school until the final day of term. If there is a good reason for an earlier departure, please contact boarding and St Augustine’s and/or St Monica’s in advance, and speak with your Head of Residence before applying for the leave request.

Free Weekend

This weekend is the first boarders free weekend of the term. Thank you to our families for working with the respective Heads of Residence to organise a plan for your son and/or daughter’s movements. Students who are staying in will enjoy another Saturday outing, along with the recreation time and activities that are usually enjoyed in boarding.

A reminder that boarders have until 8pm this Sunday to return to their residences. If wishing to return on Monday morning, the respective Head of Residence should be told well in advance.

End of School for Year 12

At the end of Week 3, our Year 12 boarders begin preparing for the Queensland external exams, which start on Monday 23 October. St Augustine’s celebrate graduation day before then, on Thursday 19 October, and St Monica’s graduation day is on Wednesday 15 November.

Ms Luff and Mr Lawrence are working with our Year 12 boarders to establish their movements during the exams. If parents have any information that could help with this process please contact  the respective Head of Residence.

Year 12 Boarders Final Sunday Night Mass

The boarding community fittingly celebrated the final Sunday night Mass for our Year 12s on October 8. It was a lovely Mass with excellent involvement from all students. Mass was followed by a tasty supper for the Year 12s in Tolle's

Congratulations to Jessica Rye who received the Spirit of Chavoin Award and Ned Nancarrow  who received the Spirit of Francois Award. Congratulations to these worthy recipients. Mass was followed by a tasty supper in Tolle's.

We also congratulate all our other Year 12 boarders and thank them for their positive contributions and involvement in the boarding community.

Saturday Outing

The first Saturday outing of the term last weekend was a popular choice with a visit to Lake Eacham. It was a relaxing day for the boarders as they swam and enjoyed the sunshine.
