Farewell to the Liturgy Captain

St Augustine’s thanks Chaz for his outstanding contributions to the faith life of the College. His last student-led prayer drew 160 + and he had a very powerful message.  Thank you Chaz, your faith is inspirational! This was a wonderful prayer to leave us with.

Rosies

Rosies is thrilled that 29 students volunteered throughout the year. Some students volunteered up to five times. This is a record for the College, one we hope to maintain or improve on. The Year 11 students will take this on from here. The response  to the first night was overwhelming with 14 offers to help.

College Principal Glen Sievers took the prefects out for a meal on Tuesday 10 October to celebrate their successes this year. We enjoyed very generous meals at the RSL and it was exciting to hear about the new adventures they will embark on in 2024. The College sincerely thanks them for the efforts they have put into their roles. It has been a most positive year for growth.

The Vinnies Christmas Appeal has kicked off with the Year 12s donating $1200 before they leave. The Student Representative Council will be accepting donations of good used clothes, shoes and sports equipment to run a buy-back stall in Week 6 to help boost the funds. Please send in worthy items for sale with your son to school. Thank you for supporting this.

There is a parent retreat opportunity in upcoming weeks. The retreat is intended to be informal and its focus is on providing a day of spiritual reflection, participation and collaboration. Please see the flyer for more information.

The College congratulates three students on receiving the sacraments of Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation at our Boarders Mass on Sunday 8 October. Taylan Avenell, Ziggy Groot and Dennis Thompson are welcomed into our Catholic community. Thank you to Fr Laurie for his help in preparing them for this.

St Vincent de Paul Christmas Hamper Appeal

By Service Captain Michael Doolan

One of St Augustine's staple service events is the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Hamper Appeal, in which we pledge to donate baskets of food to some of the most marginalised and neglected members of our society. Despite the hamper appeal not being officially launched until later this term, under the direction of my successor, and in  conjunction with the Arts Department we are delighted to launch a new initiative, our Charity Art Auction. This auction is a superb opportunity for our visual artists to create amazing pieces to auction off to the Saints community, to support those less fortunate than ourselves this Christmas.

Many of our visual artists have been tirelessly working over the past few months to create high quality items to donate to this project. If it weren’t for their astonishing contributions this project would simply not be possible. It would also be remiss of me not to mention the amazing work of several Arts Department teachers who have guided and assisted them in the design and creation process, with a special mention to Ms Almond for sacrificing many a Wednesday afternoon for this project.

Initiatives such as this are an incredible testament to the men of this college. It is clear that service, charity and volunteering are integral aspects of what it is to be a Saints man.

To look at the items and begin bidding please go to the link below and complete the form. There is no limit to the number of art works you can bid on, and your bids can be changed so long as you haven’t already submitted one.  The bidding process will end at 6pm Friday 20 October and the winners will be notified and announced the following week.

Thank you for supporting this amazing service initiative at the College, and happy bidding!
