Wear It Purple Day
Thank you so much to all the families who donated their time and treats to our 'Wear It Purple Day' fundraiser on Friday the 25th of August. We were overwhelmed with cupcakes, jelly slice, cookies and rice bubble slice to sell and ended up raising around $645 for Minus 18 - Champions for LGBTQIA+ youth!
It was amazing to see the community come together once again for a great cause and the sea of purple lining up to get their sugar hit and support. Thank you also to the families who loaned us picture books to read in our classrooms.
Tupperware containers from donations are in the staffroom, if you are missing any please come and collect from the office.
School Council Update
Hi Parents and Carers,
School Council met last night for our August meeting. Please find below an update.
Change to school reports
As we have informed previously, extensive consultation and planning has been underway as a result of parent and carer feedback on school reports, and balancing with this the capacity of teaching staff. Planning is underway to include a descriptive comment in school reports, in addition to the existing information provided for Semester 1 2024 reports.
Consent for excursions & School Camps & Excursion policy
A lot of time is taken up on excursion days where families of students have not submitted their consent. This impacts on the experience of all excursion participants. Therefore, from next term teachers will not call families on the day of excursions where consent has not been given. As families receive ample notice through Compass, Council feels that this is a fair outcome. Please make sure you regularly review Compass for notifications. To reflect this change, the Camps and Excursion policy has been updated - you can find this here (http://www.carltonnthps.vic.edu.au/index.php/plans-and-policies/).
Fundraising
The Great Lee Street Fete
As we communicated in our last update, the 2024 Great Lee Street Fete is scheduled for Sunday 3 March. Planning is afoot to recreate the wonderful day we all had at this year’s fete! We need many hands to make this work again! We’d love to see as many volunteers as we can at the kick off fete meeting on Monday 2 October at 6pm, Wine Room Corner Store (50 Princes St, North Carlton). In particular, if you have a business or specific skills in food and beverage, logistics or event planning, we’d love to hear from you!
Trivia night
Trivia night is on! – Friday 10 November at St Brigid’s on Nicholson Street Fitzroy. Keep an eye out for more details and tickets. Thanks to Cath Doggett for organising this one!
Referendum fundraiser
Now that the date for the referendum on The Voice to Parliament has been set for Saturday October 14, we can confirm that our school will be a site for voting. It’s a great opportunity to raise some funds, so we’ll be holding a BBQ on this day. If you are free to help, please sign up in our volunteer roster: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XBvkoBu5KjvSYChBkiHN3qsBHPya3sb2tufqGJbvteQ/edit?usp=sharing.
Grants working group
We are investigating starting up a small working group to take the lead on applying for grants for the school. There are a number of opportunities for the school to apply for grants for specific initiatives, and we’d like to lean on this in 2024. If you have skills in grant writing area, please reach out to Rebecca or Jane.
Working bee on Sunday 8 October
Another date to put in your calendar – this time for a working bee. We’ve heard feedback and are scheduling this day on a weekend to hopefully get as many helpers as we can - even if you can only spare an hour. Many hands make light work (including kids!). Ben is drawing up a list of jobs which will be published prior to the end of this term. We are also investigating a sausage sizzle to say thanks - if anyone is open to being on the tongs please reach out. Hope to see you there!
Wellbeing and inclusion
There are many initiatives underway by this newly formed sub-committee. Please let Jane or Kylie know if you are keen to contribute to the school’s efforts in this space.
Welcome new school council members
We would like to welcome Rebecca Kelly and Don Townsend as our two new School Council members, and thank everyone who nominated. We’re looking forward to Rebecca and Don sharing their skills and capabilities for the betterment of our whole school community.
As always, please do reach out to us or anyone on Council with questions, feedback or other suggestions.
Thanks,
Bec and Kylie.
