The semi-finals of the Orange Junior Hockey Association for the U14, U16 and U18 took place last week. Four matches took place, each showcasing the talent, determination, and sportsmanship of our young athletes. The results of these matches brought both celebration and disappointment as teams fought for a chance at a grand-final birth.
KWS U18 Rockets vs CYMS
In a highly anticipated clash, the KWS U18 Rockets faced off against CYMS. The match was marked by intense energy and strategic plays from both sides. The Rockets managed to secure a narrow victory, defeating CYMS with a scoreline of 2-1. The game was a display of skilful manoeuvres, solid defense, and well-executed attacks. Maka Mutyiri had a fantastic game in goals making some excellent saves, while Taylah Hobbs and Phoebe Smith were dangerous in attack. The Rockets' triumph propelled them to the finals, setting the stage for an exciting prelim final on Monday night.
KWS Lakers vs. Molong
The KWS Lakers faced a tough challenge against Molong in their semi-final encounter. Despite their best efforts, the Lakers fell short, suffering a 3-0 defeat. The game showcased Molong's dominance and effective gameplay, earning them a spot in the finals. However, the Lakers' journey is not over as they are slated to play again next week, giving the team another shot at redemption and a place in the grand-final. We wish the Lakers all the best on Monday night.
KWS U14 Spurs vs. Molong 3-3 draw
The semi-final match between the KWS U14 Spurs and their opponent resulted in a closely fought 3-3 draw. The game was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams displaying remarkable determination and skill. The Spurs exhibited their prowess in offense, creating scoring opportunities, while their opponent showcased a resilient defense. The draw reflects the closely matched skill levels of the teams, leaving spectators eagerly anticipating their next encounter. Well done to the KWS Spurs on a fantastic season.
KWS U14 76ers vs. Molong
The KWS U14 76ers faced a challenging opponent in Molong, with both teams vying for a spot in the finals. Despite putting up a valiant effort, the 76ers were unable to secure a victory and ultimately lost to Molong. As a result, the KWS U14 76ers will be exiting the finals race, marking the end of their hockey season. The match, however, showcased the talent and potential of young athletes as they gave their all on the field and demonstrated how much they have improved this year.
The Interschool Snowsports State Championships were held between the 21-24 September in Perisher Valley.
Kinross Wolaroi had three members of their Snowsports Team competing after qualifying at the Regional Championship earlier this season. Jett Johnson competed in the Division 4 Snowboard Cross and Snowboard GS, achieving an amazing result by finishing 15th and 29th respectively, and progressing to the Australian Championships for Snowboard Cross. Thomas Karrasch competed in the Division 4 Moguls, Alpine and Ski Cross with an incredible result placing 20th in Moguls to also progress to the Australian Championship. William Karrasch also competed at the State Championships in the Slopestyle competition that allows competitors in Divisions 1-3 to compete down a run that consists of two table top jumps with varying levels of take-off difficulty provided on each jump. William competed in Division 2 and placed 19th which was an extraordinary effort and qualified him for the Australian Championship.
Unfortunately, due to the lack of snow this season, the Australian Championship that was to be held at Mt Buller next week was cancelled. Despite this, I want to congratulate all members of the Kinross Wolaroi Snowsport Team for their amazing results during this year’s competitions. Having three competitors qualify for the Australian Championships is a credit to their hard work and dedication and I am sure we would have seen some incredible results coming out of our first year in the Interschools competition, had the Australian Championships gone ahead. I look forward to growing the team and seeing what the Snowsports Team can achieve in the coming years.

Our season concluded last Friday night with a sold out Rugby Presentation evening. Held at the Orange Ex-Services Club, 430 of our Kinross Rugby Family were in attendance for what was a truly special and memorable night.
The night was run by our Rugby Captains Luke Dominello and Bella Sinclair who did a fantastic job of keeping all presenters on task. It was great to hear them speak of their experiences of their time with Kinross Wolaroi School Rugby and also their hopes for the future. A number of Awards were handed out throughout the evening and the recipients can be viewed by clicking on the link below.
I would like to thank our Rugby Club, in particular Rob McColl, Sarah Wakem and Adam Goodsir for their work not only with this event, but also the countless hours they have contributed this season.
Whilst across all our teams we won more games this year, we are not content or satisfied. We are currently reviewing the season and searching for ways to improve. Bring on 2024.
Please enjoy our video review put together by Claudias Frances with some help from Nico Nash.
