Physical Education News

Dear Tarneit Rise Primary School Families and Friends

Welcome back for our second PE newsletter for term 3. Students have been working hard toward our first assessments for the term.

We would like to congratulate one of our Porter House captains Eva Hines on her selection to the Under 12’s Victoria State School Netball Team. Eva has shown great ability in all facets of PE at Tarneit Rise, so it’s no surprise she was able to achieve such an amazing feat. She will be heading to Darwin to compete against other States and Territories in the upcoming term 3 holidays. Good luck Eva!!

Unfortunately, our TRPS Girls Netball team was unsuccessful at moving past the Wyndham Division stage. They faced some incredibly tough competition but held together and showed great team spirit. Well done girls!

Sadly, our Mixed AFL team was unable to compete at divisions due to a timetabling issue. We’re proud of the team for making it to this stage.

Preps

The Preps have continued to focus on their fundamental movement skills during their gymnastics circuits. They have been exploring the importance of their vestibular systems and how this supports our balance during movements. The students have completed these circuits whilst ensuring they move in a safe manner for themselves and their peers. We will be able to assess their growth through the next week in their ability to do a cartwheel and in future with their forward roll assessment.

Grade 1s and 2s

Grade 1s and 2s have also been focusing on gymnastics circuits and developing their fundamental movement skills. They have been exploring how their vestibular system and muscular system will support their balance and their body doing different movements whilst maintaining safety and awareness of their environment. We will also be assessing their cartwheel and forward roll in the coming weeks, which we will be able to compare to previous assessment.

Grade 3s and 4s

The grade 3 and 4 students have continued working on target games, which we assessed them on in week 4 with games of tic-tac-toe Bocce. Students were assessed on 5 criteria. Force, accuracy, fair play/scoring, technique and strategy. The students loved this game, which is a great leveller and promoted spirited competition and great strategic thinking.

Grades 5s and 6s

Grade 5 and 6 students continued with target games and were also assessed in week 4 using tic-tac-toe Bocce. The strategic thinking involved was great to see. We are moving on to our fitness unit in week 5. Students are excited to complete the Coopers Run and compare it to their previous results. We also have some new additions to our fitness circuit that we can’t wait to introduce students to in week 6.
