Year 7 Transition

Tuesday 12th December was the Statewide Transition Day and Horsham College hosted our 2025 Year 7 students. This was an exciting day for students and staff at the College as students had a further taste of secondary life before starting next year. A very big thank you to Ms. Heather Deayton, Ms. Susan McKenry, Mr. Gareth Hose, Mr. Cameron Bruce, Ms. Kara Johnson, and Mr. Liam Price for their work in arranging the transition and ensuring the day was successful for all students.

The College has invested heavily again in ensuring there is a high level of support and assistance for students in 2025 and we are looking forward to all our Year 7s having a great year.

End of Year

This week activities started for students (as of Wednesday) with formal classes completed. Students are still welcome to attend and will continue to be provided with an onsite program and will be supervised.

Korrie Connections Event

At our school, we are committed to fostering a culturally inclusive and safe environment for all members of our community. One of the ways we achieve this is by providing opportunities for our Koorie families to come together, connect, and share in spaces that celebrate and respect their cultural heritage.

Over the last two years, Horsham government schools have worked collaboratively to create a termly meaningful event where Koorie families can come together to connect, share their experiences, and discuss their day-to-day lives. These gatherings also provide an opportunity to demonstrate to their children the importance of education and the value of community support. Our final event for the year was held last night, bringing together families from across Horsham. The gathering took place at Water Park and included pizza on the banks of the culturally significant Barenji Gadjin (Wimmera River). It was a wonderful celebration of the year's achievements, and it was fantastic to see so many people in attendance, simply enjoying each other's company.

These gatherings are more than just events—they are a chance to build meaningful relationships, strengthen community ties, and ensure that the voices of Koorie families are heard and valued in our school. By creating safe spaces for open dialogue and cultural sharing, we help to honour and uphold the traditions, knowledge, and perspectives that are so vital to our broader community.

Cultural inclusivity benefits everyone. It enriches our understanding of each other, enhances learning experiences, and ensures our students grow up with a strong sense of belonging and respect for diversity. For our Koorie families, these opportunities provide a platform to share their experiences, connect with other families, and work in partnership with the school to support their children’s learning and well-being.

We are committed to continuing to listen, learn, and work with our Koorie community to build an environment where everyone feels respected, safe, and valued. Together, we can ensure that our school remains a place where culture is celebrated and where all families can thrive.
