Foundation Wrap Up

It has been such a remarkable year watching these bright, eager, and courageous Foundation students grow and thrive in their very first year of school. From the very first day, they came in full of curiosity, ready to explore a world of new experiences, and what a journey it has been!

This year, we witnessed their excitement as they participated in events that will stay with them for years to come. The Tabloid Sports Day was a perfect example of their spirit, as they cheered each other on, with determination, and celebrated each victory, no matter how big or small. They showed us how teamwork and friendship could shine through even the most competitive moments.

The reptile incursion was another unforgettable experience, where these young minds had the opportunity to get up close with creatures they had only seen in books or on TV. Their faces lit up with wonder as they learned about the fascinating world of reptiles, and it was heart-warming to see them overcome any fears with bravery and curiosity.

Our excursion to the Werribee Zoo was an adventure that sparked awe and excitement. The students' wide-eyed fascination as they saw the animals in person, their questions bubbling up, and their enthusiasm for learning was a beautiful reminder of the wonder that comes with childhood. Every step, from the lions to the lemurs, was an opportunity for these young learners to explore, discover, and bond as a class.

Book Week was another highlight of the year. Watching the students dress up as their favourite characters and share stories of the books they love was an incredible reflection of their creativity and passion for reading. The joy they brought to this event reminded us all of the power of imagination and the importance of stories in shaping their world.

Through it all—whether in the classroom, at events, or on excursions—these students have shown us what it means to grow with enthusiasm, kindness, and a thirst for knowledge. They have achieved so much in their first year of school, and each milestone, whether academic or personal, is a testament to their resilience and potential.

As their teachers, we could not be prouder of their achievements. They have embraced every challenge, made new friends, and learned new skills with such determination. It is clear that this is just the beginning of a long and exciting journey, and we are so excited to see what the future holds for each of them. Here's to the wonderful, spirited Foundation class—your first year has been unforgettable!

Year 3 Beach Program- Williamstown Swimming & Surf Life Saving Club

On Tuesday our adventurous year 3 students took part in the Beach Program. This program was a fantastic way for our students to learn about water safety and lifesaving techniques. It was a  full day program with snack and lunch breaks. Our students engaged in several  practical experiences to help familiarise them with the beach environment through enjoyable educational activities.

This included:

  • Beach and water awareness/ being prepared
  • Basic CPR and how to be an everyday lifesaver
  • Survival strategies

"I enjoyed the sand games because they gave me some time to warm up after being in the ocean." -  Archie

Excursion to the NGV Australia

On Thursday 12th December, three of our Koorie students, went on an excursion to the National Gallery of Victoria Australia to see the Aboriginal Art collection. A gallery educator took students on a guided tour of the Wurrdha Marra exhibition. Wurrdha Marra means many Mobs and is an exhibition of different artworks by different Aboriginal artists from around Australia. We had a look at the Bark Salon exhibition, an exhibition of bark painting from around Australia. The highlight of the visit was seeing the Reko Rennie exhibition ‘Rekospective’. Rennie is an Aboriginal artist that grew up in Footscray, his work is about Aboriginal identity and growing up in urban Melbourne. We learnt that Aboriginal art takes many forms, film, pottery, painting, neon lights, clothes, furniture, metal sculptures. Students had a great time.

The Obliteration Room

The Obliteration Room is a large-scale interactive installation for children and families by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. In her art, Yayoi Kusama has used dots to cover many different surfaces and fill entire rooms. She calls this process ‘obliteration’, which means the complete destruction of every trace of something. At the NGV, Yayoi Kusama invites everyone to ‘obliterate’ the rooms by adding bright, colourful dots to the white furniture, objects and surfaces.
