Student Leadership 2025
There have been some slight changes to the student to the college Student Leadership portfolios for 2025. Recent editions of this newsletter have announced the introduction of the College Vice Captains role for 2025 and the College Colour Captains will now be known as the Student Executive Leadership Team. These changes reflect the depth and quality of candidates who expressed an interest in leading the college in 2025. It is hoped that our student leaders will inspire:
- a positive Catholic culture evidenced by our school wide expectations
- enthusiasm for Marist-Sion College as a thriving learning community
- leadership by their demonstrated school pride, sprit and action.

Loreto House Assembly
Twice a term the whole College comes together for an assembly to celebrate the wonderful achievements of the Marist-Sion community. Our new Student Executive Leadership Team where formally announced to the College. These assemblies provide an opportunity for the College leaders to showcase their respective portfolio’s and celebrate the many successes of the College.
On Tuesday, Leith Metcalf presented to the college his recent experiences on the Kokoda Trail as part of the George Collins scholarship award. Leith was supported on stage by former MP Mr Gary Blackwood and Mr Bernie Rowell. Leith's presentation was very inspiring. So moved by the experience was Leith that he penned this poem about his experiences. Leith has given me permission to share this poem in the Emmaus.
At Isurava we took our stand
In honour of our sacred land
Seventy-four until the death
Fighting until our last breath
Some ran some crawled
Always on our toes
Combating against our every woe
Anything to defeat the foe
Through-in throughout all through the night
Watching, waiting, out of sight
For anyone that poked his head,
You might as well just call him dead
Throughout it all
We charged, we prayed
To live again another day
Mates by our side to watch our back
Looking out over the Kokoda track
To walk these footsteps layer down before
Their presence is here forevermore.

Year 7 2025 Orientation Day
On a windy and wild 29 of November we welcomed our new Year 7’s to the college for the first of two orientations days. While these days are met with mixed emotions, the students conducted themselves magnificently, getting to know the key personnel at the college and orientating themselves around the campus.
A big thank you to our Heads of House for supporting the students on the day.
Merry Christmas
The last lesson of our final day on the 6th of Dec allowed us the opportunity to come together as a College for the last time in 2024. A few short announcements aside, it was pleasing to have all the staff and students finish together with a rousing rendition of Jingle Bell rock! It certainly left me with a smile on my face and was another example of the positive relationships with have with one another at the college.
To all of our families at Marist Sion College, can I please wish you all a very safe Christmas and I look forward to seeing you all again in the new year.
