From the SOE Head of School
Greetings everyone,
This edition of The Net brings us to the final one for 2024 and as you have seen over the year, there is much to celebrate in terms of what our students from the School of Entrepreneurs have achieved.
Year 10 Conquer the Great Aussie Bush Camp
This week, our adventurous Year 10 students embarked on an unforgettable journey to The Great Aussie Bush Camp in Kincumber. It was a time of personal growth, camaraderie and pushing the boundaries of what they thought possible.
From the moment the camp began, it was clear that this would be no ordinary excursion. The activities challenged not only physical abilities but also mental fortitude, fostering resilience and self-belief. Whether it was soaring through the air on the giant swing, taking a daring leap on the aptly named Leap of Faith, or scaling the heights of the rock climbing wall, each student stepped out of their comfort zone with determination.
One standout moment was when one of our own smashed the group’s climbing record with an incredible time of just 26 seconds! This extraordinary feat left everyone in awe and served as a powerful reminder that with courage and commitment, we can achieve remarkable things.
These activities weren’t just about the thrill, they taught invaluable life lessons. Overcoming fears on the giant swing mirrored the challenges we face in life, reminding us that when we let go and trust, amazing things can happen. The Leap of Faith symbolised reaching for our goals, even when they seem out of reach and the rock climbing wall demonstrated that perseverance, focus and grit can help us achieve new heights, both literally and figuratively.
Year 10, you have made St Luke’s proud with your enthusiasm, teamwork and willingness to embrace every challenge. You have shown us what it means to push your limits and aim for the stars.
A big thank you to Mrs Murdocca for her organisation of the camp and to the team of staff who invested in this 3 day camp whilst being away from their families: Mr O’Callaghan, Mr Jurd, Miss Dizon, Mrs Ghai, Miss Turner, Mr Fucile Mrs Bauer and Ms Genovese, all who supported these students throughout this adventure. Also a thank you to the team at The Great Aussie Bush Camp for creating such an inspiring experience. Let’s carry the spirit of this camp into the rest of the school year and beyond.
Well done Year 10, keep climbing and reaching for new heights in 2025! 🌟

Religious Education
Year 9 students had the exciting opportunity to present their short stories on Stewardship to Stage 2 classes. Through their creative narratives, they shared powerful messages about caring for creation, inspiring younger students to reflect on their role as stewards of the Earth. The younger students were deeply engaged, asking thoughtful questions and connecting with the stories. For the Year 9 presenters, this experience was highly rewarding, as they saw their efforts make a meaningful impact and gained confidence in sharing their work with a broader audience.
Year 10 students are exploring the art of biblical micrography, a creative practice where they form intricate designs using tiny, handwritten scripture passages. This reflective activity allows them to engage deeply with biblical texts while contemplating the spiritual significance of prayer. As they create their art, students connect their designs to the importance of prayer in their lives.
English
This term in English, Year 10 have been exploring the concept of gender representation in the media. They have engaged with a range of texts including social media, advertisement, music, poetry and film where they have been able to consider the ways ideas about gender are represented and how these messages may be problematic.
More recently, students took on four distinct roles to critically explore the world of advertising: The Marketer, Consumer, Critic and Activist. This activity saw students delve into media literacy, explore advertisement’s influence and its broader social implications, helping them understand how advertising contributes to, shapes and reflects societal values.
HSIE
This term in HSIE, Year 10 has been investigating Human Wellbeing. Students have looked at a variety of factors impacting human wellbeing across the world investigating different countries both as a class and in smaller groups. To end the unit of work, Year 10 have been undertaking an investigation in Global Happiness whereby students have been working in pairs to investigate the human wellbeing factors in their allocated country. From a variety of continents and a variety of factors, students have worked well to solidify their knowledge and understanding of differences in Human Wellbeing.
To take this to a new level, 10 NAVY with Mrs Marino and Mr Fucile had the class debate who’s country had a greater sense of human wellbeing. NAVY dug deep into the research of their countries where each student was successful in highlighting the strong aspects of research and all students had a go in debating another student where the rest of their peers were able to judge the winners of the debates.
This final task highlighted the class’ understanding and reflection of the unit of work and they should be commended for their efforts over the course of the year.

CAPA
Our Year 12 Visual Art students have been making fantastic progress on their Body of Work projects. As they head into the holidays, it’s important that they continue to dedicate time and effort to refining their concept. This major project is a significant part of their final assessment, so consistent work over the break will help them stay on track and achieve their best results. We encourage students to keep exploring their ideas, experimenting with techniques, and developing their creative vision throughout the holiday period.
TAS
Some Year 10 Design and Technology students are exploring sewing techniques through creative projects. They are currently crafting imaginative designs like elephants and monsters, building their skills and creativity. Up next, they will take on practical sewing projects by designing and creating lunch bags and pillow cushions.

Year 9 Make Bake and Decorate
The class planned and prepared a Christmas Morning Tea for School Staff. They planned a diverse menu to cater for a wide range of nutritional requirements, and also presented the food items in line with the theme of Christmas. It was the perfect gesture for staff at this time of the year, providing a little pick-me-up to get through the end of term. Students were also able to receive appreciation from staff as they presented the morning tea, and it was great to see the pride in their faces.
I would like to thank Simon Holloway for leading this small initiative, and a huge thank you to Teagan Nguyen who provided support by providing ideas, helping prepare the food, and always going above and beyond.

LIFE DESIGN
Year 9 are wrapping up their exploration of Digital Footprint and completing their online Portfolio to showcase the best of themselves including the completion of some free online credentials. This unit has been informative about the impacts of all we post online and hopefully developed some critical skills in discerning what could be a positive ‘post’ to ensure an individual's online presence is positively received.
Year 10 have been working hard on their Legacy Projects, of which several have been given the approval from College leaders. It is now an opportunity for those students to take their planning and make it happen! With many of these projects planned for next year, we all look forward to seeing the impact of these projects on the greater St Luke’s Community.
We are also preparing for the Year 10 Bridging Ceremony. A celebration of students' learnings in Life Design over the course of 4 years. This will be celebrated on Friday 13th December in the Performance Hall. Parents wishing to view the ceremony can do so via LIVE STREAM. Details will be sent on socials closer to the event.
Pathways and Partnerships
This week we took a group of students to volunteer at Operation Christmas Child. This initiative, organised by Samaritan's Purse collects shoeboxes filled with donated toys, school supplies, and essential items and delivers them to children in need around the world. In 2024, Operation Christmas Child hopes to collect enough shoeboxes to reach another 12 million children around globally. Each student contributed to the process, some inspected the boxes to ensure they were packed correctly, others scanned to keep track of the donations, some taped up the boxes securely, and the others lifted them to get ready to be shipped. This experience gave students the opportunity to give back and shows how even small actions can have a global impact. They all did a wonderful job, going above and beyond in all tasks. We would like to give a special shout-out to Esther, our amazing Year 8 student, who joined the Year 11 students in volunteering and showed exceptional dedication and teamwork.
Year 12 Mentor
This week, the Year 12 students participated in The Memory Chain—a heartwarming activity designed to reflect on their journey throughout the year, celebrate achievements, and share positive memories. Each student contributed a “link” to the chain by writing down a favorite memory, a proud moment or a shoutout to a friend or mentor who made their year special. The links were then joined together to form a colourful and inspiring chain that symbolised the collective experiences and growth. This activity was a beautiful reminder of the milestones, friendships and lessons that have shaped our students' throughout 2024.
