During the next fortnight, students will be undertaking learning in the following areas:

 

SubjectLearning Focus
ReadingWeek 6 & 7- Students will learn the trigraph 'dge' and the schwa, by reading and writing words containing these phonemes. Students will also continue to develop their reading comprehension skills by making in depth inferences about the text. Students connect their prior knowledge with what they read in texts to gain a greater understanding about the story.
Writing Week 6 & 7 - Students will be revising the persuasive text type, and review the structure of persuasive texts, how to formulate an effective argument to convince their reader to see their point of view. Students will also revise an edit a persuasive piece of writing to demonstrate their understanding of the structure and features of persuasive texts.
MathsWeek 6 & 7- In week 6 students will be investigating the features of maps and locations. Students will identify the location of different items on a grid. In week 7, maths will be combined with inquiry, where students will be utilizing their learnt knowledge of 3D and 2D shapes, combined understanding of sustainability learnt through inquiry, to create a sustainable 3D town. Students should have been busy collecting recycled materials at home and will be asked to bring these in week 6.
InquiryIn this unit students will prepare for the roles of the future such as innovation, creativity, reasoning, problem-solving and technical science skills such as questioning, observing, systematic experimentation and analysis and interpretation of data. Students will enjoy STEAM challenges, while building resilience, teamwork skills and strengthen their ability to explain.
SELWeek 6 & 7 - Students will continue to engage in games and activities in mixed groups across the module, to support friendship development and resilience. See below for some photos taken during these sessions. The students have enjoyed interacting with different students, and learning about each other.

 

News and Reminders.

  • As part of our Inquiry unit, the children will learn the 8 R's of recycling, for our maths/ inquiry project, we would be grateful for donations of yogurt containers (washed), egg cartons, newspapers, magazines, single and multiple small snack boxes, and kitchen tubes (cling wrap, paper towel etc - not toilet rolls please) Please give to your child's teacher.
  • Monday 18th December - Year 2 long day camp.
