From the Acting Principal

Term 4 Week 5

Hi all Parents and Carers,

The middle of next week, when the students return on November 6th, officially marks the halfway point of Term 4!

We have been busy so far but things only get busier from now until the end of the year. I know many of our families take this opportunity to get away for a couple of days, so I hope if you do that it is an energising time for the family. If not, I hope that this extended Cup Weekend break provides some opportunity for family time to help our students be ready to tackle the last five weeks of the school year. Not everybody is into horse racing, but if you are and have a horse in a sweep somewhere, I hope you get plenty of enjoyment cheering your horse, but also in gathering to enjoy some time with friends and family for the occasion.

Food Sharing

I take this opportunity to remind all families that students should not be sharing food at recess and lunch time. We have been talking to the students about the importance of only eating the food that their parents send to school. While it is nice to occasionally share a treat for a celebration or special event, students are asked not to share the food they bring to school or ask their friends to share something that they have. We ask that families reiterate this message at home too.

Prep 2024 First Transition Session

We look forward to welcoming our 2024 Prep students and their families to the first of our Prep Transition sessions on Wednesday 8th of November. This will be the first of three sessions where they get the chance to explore the learning spaces of the school and begin the process of becoming comfortable in our community.

Events

It was wonderful to see today the many grandparents and special people who were able to join us this morning at our Prep Grandparents’ Day. The children very proudly made shortbread cookies to share with their grandparents and enjoyed sharing some special items that had been brought in to share. Thank you to the Prep team and parent helpers who were able to help to make this a lovely event.

On Friday 10th November we will be holding a short Remembrance Day Liturgy at 10:30 am for all the students. Remembrance Day, November 11 is a day when we acknowledge those who died while serving in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. It is important that we take this time to talk to our students, the future of our country, about the long lasting and devastating effects that war has on so many families. It seems again this year so unfortunately poignant as the world watches on with conflicts around the world.

We will finish off next week with our PFOL Obstacle Course Run. This event will be after lunch on Friday 10th November. As per the PFOL flyers there is a call out for parent assistance from 1 pm to help set up the course and then to assist at the checkpoints and obstacles around the school. The students will run a few laps of the course starting around 2:20 pm.

After all the fun of the Obstacle Run we will be having the working bee between 2 and 5 pm on Saturday November 11th. Hopefully we will see plenty of families at the working bee with the thought of ‘many hands make light work’ or, if you prefer, ‘the more the merrier!’ We hope to see you all there.

Regards,

Mark Pinkerton

Acting Principal
