What's Been Happening in Year 1

In our Inquiry unit this term, we are learning about Australian native animals. We have started exploring their features, their habitats and their diet.

To enhance our learning experience, last week, we went on an excursion to Melbourne Zoo. As wild explorers for the day, we had the opportunity to observe various animals and their habitats. We had a fantastic time learning about different animals and reading about their characteristics.

We participated in the Wild Explorers program, where we were provided with various ways to investigate nature and living things. During this session, we were encouraged to look up, look down and look all around, pausing to become aware of wildlife and their surroundings. We were able to unlock 'animal secrets' while exploring the zoo.

We took time to reflect and write about our experiences after our excursion to the zoo. Here are some photos of our recounts and snapshots of our fun-filled day.

Year 5 Animal Adaptations Expo

This past Wednesday, the Year 5 students warmly welcomed parents and families into their classrooms to share the amazing projects they've been working on during their lessons about animal adaptations.

An adaptation is like a special tool that animals have to help them live in their habitats. It could be something about their body or how they behave that makes it easier for them to find food, water, friends, and a safe place to live.

The students did a fantastic job creating dioramas, which are detailed models, to show different animals in their natural homes. They were excited to explain and point out the adaptations that each animal has. It was so heartwarming to see many families coming in to admire and celebrate the hard work and effort the children put into their projects. Well done to the Year 5s for their wonderful efforts and impressive displays!

Outstanding Performance by Nana Kwabena Tiboah at State Primary Track and Field Championships

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

I am thrilled to share some exciting news from the State Primary Track and Field Championships, which took place on Wednesday, November 1st. Our very own Nana Kwabena Tiboah from 5C participated in the highly competitive 100m sprint event and delivered an outstanding performance that left us all in awe.

Nana Kwabena's journey to the championship was marked by dedication, hard work, and countless hours of training. His efforts truly paid off as he showcased his remarkable talent and determination during the event. In the final race, Nana Kwabena demonstrated a blistering run, displaying an incredible burst of speed and agility.

In the end, Nana Kwabena finished in an impressive second place, narrowly beaten by a mere 300th of a second. This achievement is nothing short of remarkable and is a testament to Nana's exceptional athletic skills and unwavering commitment to his sport.

We, the entire Our Lady's Primary School community, couldn't be prouder of Nana Kwabena's remarkable accomplishment. It's a moment of great joy and pride for Nana, his family, and our school. We want to congratulate him on this fantastic achievement and wish him all the best in his future athletic endeavors.

This success is yet another example of the incredible talents and dedication our students possess.

Craigieburn Library Class Visits

Students in Year 1 will be visiting the Hume Craigieburn Library in Term 4. For your child to be able to borrow a book whilst on the excursion they must be a member of the Hume library. If your child isn't a member already, we encourage you to visit the library and become a member. To sign up, you need to visit the Hume library in person and provide identification with your current address. If your child has a membership card but has not borrowed within the last 12 months, their library card will have expired. Please see the school newsletter for dates your child will be visiting the library.
